qualification for nationals??

I have a guy arguing with me over how long you are qualified for nationals once you get your weight class win at a qualifier.

I have always known it to be 2 years. However, for some reason he swears it is 5 because he has competed at the nationals.

Anyone clarify this for me?

from the NPC ONLINE website:

Now, assuming you are a U.S. citizen and have your current NPC card, your next step before submitting your entry is to qualify for the particular contest you want to enter. Each of the ten national contests has different qualifications so it is imperative that you study the entry form. Most of the contests in this category are referred to as "national qualifiers." For some, you must have mainly competed in an NPC contest the last two years while for others you must place first or second in your weight class.

An associated point is once earned, your qualifications are good for two years. In actual implementation, you get two years plus the balance of the year the qualification is earned. For example, if you qualify for a contest on August 21, 2000, your qualifications to compete are good in any national contest until December 31, 2002.

I get to do his wife. Problem is, she goes 325 at 5 foot 1. Guess I would have rather been wrong, huh?

If I lie to him, would any of you tell?

Skip,

I'm 99% sure there is a rule that if you place in either the top 5 or top 6 (can't recall which) at the USA's or the nationals, you get a 5 year qualification for national levels shows.

I have seen and heard this mentioned several times, so I don't think he is making it up. Its not remotely relevant to me now, so I never bothered to confirm.

From what I've found the NPC page is pretty worthless for getting the real deal on their rules.
