Do we have any runners on here?

Personally I hate it, always have. But I have to do it for military training purposes and need to build up to about 5 miles comfortably in hr and uncomfortably in like 45 min.

Any tips? I've started adding in intervals/sprnts which someone help but more ideas would help and asking regulars runners doesn't help much cause they aren't 230lbs

It sucks.... For my I did interval running like once a week it didn't seem to help much but it was a nice way to break up the routine. I found the best way to get ready for a run is to do the run over and over so if your goal is a 5 mile run then go out and run 5 miles a day until you get used to it and your times are where they need to be. If you can't handle a 5 mile straight run at first then try 2.5 in the morning and 2.5 in the evening for the first few days. Several years ago I was 240ish and ran my 1.5 mile in 9:18 and I lead our squadron in a 5 mile run bringing home first and completing it at 48 something. Good luck with it bro.

Im running a mile in 7.:30 and 2 mile in 15:40 so ill take that advice. Ive got room to improve

Your times are crazy fast!

Ya there pretty fast for being 240 I surprised a lot of people when I was active duty but I still got smoked by those guys that were like 170 running there 1.5 in under 8:30......pissed me off

Years ago (weighed about 170-175lbs) when I ran track running long distances like 10 miles 3x per week and intervals (4x400m, 4x300m, 4x200m, 4x100m) two days per week dropped my mile time to low to mid 5 min.

I wish I could give some insightful info, but I won't run unless the cops are behind me and then it's even a toss up

I still run and use it for exercise at least twice a week. I only ran two miles though. I can run 5 now under 45 min if I wanted to. Thing is start out slow. Dont start running long and hard youll get hurt. Running is hard its why most people wont do it. I would start running on a treadmill. Its easier on the feet. Build up to running and walking for an hour. Youll be there in no time. Hell im 50 and I can do it.
