Beginner programs?

I'm helping a guy out from work with some bodybuilding training and diet. He's in great shape. Maybe early 40's and seems willing to listen. I don't train frequently and I train very different than most. If you had a chance to start over, what would you focus on? I'm thinking he would be fine training like me with a similiar albeit adjusted diet. My biggest question is that he may not benefit from a more advanced program like mine. Maybe mostly compound stuff and free weights? I don't do much of that these days

I would say start him out with the compound movements for sure, bench, squat, ect... and yes free weights for sure! You say he is in great shape already? what does he do now to stay so fit?

but yeah if he is already in good shape then i would have him go for broke!

I always start em out easy. they tend to stick with it longer and if they arnt spending much time at the gym at first
mentally they dont get burnt out. I find that the ones who do to much too soon burn out quick. Same with diet also.
SLOW. I have had just had guys cut down the cokes they drink a day. Mentally for a newbie baby steps seem doable.

A full throttle diet plan and training program is usually too much for a beginner to wrap their heads around. I totally agree with the less is more at first. If he sticks with it and likes it he'll be eager to move forward and welcome a more detailed diet plan and more work load in the gym.

good answers for sure, and the more i think about it, i would have to reconsider my position and say mcgaret and exbeanpole are probably right in that you might wanna go slow at first and NOT go for broke as I suggested, lol
