Counting reps

do you count yours?

i normally count about 4 then do a few more and then count about another 3-4 and then i am pretty much done. i just try to get over 8 more around 10-12 myself.

i dont like to use any brain energy when training anymore and this seems to work well with me the sporadic count as i call it.

I try not to. I just try and go till my muscles are on fire. Counting reps are just mine fucking you.

i never count reps, i only count sets! I have ALWAYS trained every body part til failure! It has always been good to me training this way

Seriously? I guess I just took it for granted that everyone did this at least subconsciously. I did like 15 sets of shoulder press yesterday and I can tell you the weight and rep scheme of every set.

i just cant help my self..i count every set every rep..granted if i do 6 or 16 i wont stop untill i cant go any more..but i always count..

when a hot chick walks past im like 101-102 -103-104..lol..

I fail at everything I do! Maybe this bodybuilding thing will workout after all.... oh wait... you have to actually put effort in to fail? Fuck that!:p

I only count to keep record of how many I've done because the next time you have to either increase the weight or increase reps to progress. If I'm doing sets of 10 for volume for example, I'll keep on going until I fail, but I'll have record of how many sets and reps I did.

If we always either increased the weight or the reps then we'd all be pushing 200,000lbs for 30,000 reps lol. Sorry that was the dick head in my trying to say you reach a point where neither is feasible so failures all ya got. :)

I never count. If I do ill psyche myself out. Ive noticed I get way more in if I go to failure.

Exactly! When I was younger counting every pound and rep and if the next workout I wasn't able to hit last weeks numbers it would b a mind fuck the test of my workout ! So I learned to just increase weight with each set and go til failure and feel the pump and know I got a good set it regardless of how many reps it might have been! Cheeses maybe but I was young so I went til failure and my body responded so I stick with it !

No prob, bro, I agreed with you about going to failure, but progressive weight training also means something has to progress. I suppose I over-generalized it. It doesn't have to be every single workout, but at some point, you should be increasing one of those things or you aren't getting stronger/bigger.

Bro I was joking brutha! Sorry if it didn't sound it, most pros count sets and reps and I knew what yeah meant generalized or not big guy ! I'm not as funny as I think I am sometimes ;-)

I have to count reps, if I don't, I can't focus. Its weird. I also think that you can progress in the WAY you lift the weight also. My form is WAY different than most peoples. The last couple of times I trained with others they had to use half the weight to use the same form as I did. As I get bigger I feel like I can really focus on that muscle more and isolate it even when using compound movements. For instance, the way I curl (wrists bent all the way back and only curling elbows) is super difficult for most, but I can't get up to 155lbs for 10 like this.

yeah that sounds "special" alright lol. I don't think i could workout with you if your doing real retarded like movements lol.

On a serious note, I'm with yeah bro, i go nice and slow and isolate muscle, i don't know if that came with experience and after all the muscle over the years, or just from being older, bigger and more confident then when i was younger and i just don't give a fuck what people think or how i look with what little weight i use now days with great form.

I count the seconds when I'm filling up my water bottle at the gym. 5 seconds is a gulp 10 seconds might get me through a set. 20-30 seconds lasts a while if it's crowded in the gym. Sometimes I try not to count but then I have to lift the water bottle up and shake it or try and stare down the hole to see inside. It's quite a little situation me being at the watering station. I get nervous...I'm sweating...people are staring....sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat screaming AGUA!!!!!

th

THAT"S SOME HIGH QUALITY H2O!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For me in the beginning I counted on the weights to impress people (they were impressed in my mind), now I try to get the most skin tearing pump and I really get a high watching shit contract in the mirror. I do things differently bc I want to look good doing them
