Say you've got something coming up and you know you won't be able to train for several months. Would you go all out and risk injury? Would you do some crazy over training with workouts and 50 rep sets? Would you try to diet and get as lean or conversely as big as possible??
 
I think just knowing I wouldn't be able to train for several months would wipe my motivation out pretty bad. I'de probably just be in the gym fucking around and say screw this, as bad as it sounds. I can't take time like that off. Week tops, that's it.

probably keep it the same for me man, maybe add a rep or two here or there when i can. same for diet...camthman has me reconsidering this though

I would back down my training, diet and come off all gear 2-3 weeks before stopping. This way I can get my head and body ready for those next few months. Going all out or getting lean will not help because your mind is still going to deal with stopping for a few months.

Now once starting back to full training and HRT I would treat it like coming off a show. This is the best time to get quality gains.

HA!! I actually choked reading that!! Ive tried not focusing on it, but that hasn't worked so I'm trying to come up with a plan. The surgeon isn't very positive about how much I'll be able to do afterwards, but it's just my neck and I'm in constant pain already so how much more limiting can it really be?! As of now I'm cutting back with the weights since in the last few weeks I've started losing the strength and feeling in my entire right arm. I'm thinking I may really cut back on the weights so it doesn't mess my mind up more and just do an hour of cardio a day.. maybe something crazy like like legs 3 times a week??
 
GVT One big workout split in to twice a day sessions. But then again it depends on what I was going to be doing during the lay off.
 
No different... if it was a couple weeks off then over training could work, but seeing as though its a few months... just allow ur body to recover those months. Regardless ur will lose size, i would back down on calories so u dont put on fat to make the bounce back easier.

After a few months off once you come back you can jumpmback on a biger cycle and rebound nicely... dont be too afraid of losing size. Focus on recovery..
 
I would blow the fuck up as fast and huge as possible so i maintain more when im layed off for whatever the reason

I would blow up then come off everything. Then those couple months I would jerk like a mad man.

The Surgeon says the discs above and below my fusion are herniated. They are going to fuse from the base of my skull all the way to T1.
He says that's the only possibility for getting the strength back in my shoulder and arm, but there is alot of risk and I may have constant debilitating pain. They're going to do it in July. I did the injections into the spinal cord, but the results only lasted a couple weeks. Theres nothing left to try.

I've been doing exactly that. Well trying... I'm doing 40 minutes of cardio on training days (2-3) and one hour on non training days. I'm having more and more problems with my right arm so I'm just taking it easy on weights and trying to find a sweet spot where everything works. I got super fat skinny during my last lay off from this crap. I got to a fat sloppy alcoholic 260. That's not happening again. I'll put myself on a fish and broccoli diet and make everyone around me miserable!

I have a 2-3 week one coming; what would you recommend. I know that I am going to have to watch the diet real close.

Really sorry to hear that bro. About the training, I would concentrate on volume training. And as you said concentrate on diet.
 
when is surgery again? i know you told me once, but im curious?

I'm at the Surgeons office now to schedule it. Probably 2 weeks. I'm hoping for some encouraging words. This has been a rough couple of weeks and it's gotten so bad that my eyes water and I wimper at times.
 
He said he doesn't want to do the entire fusion due to impact it will have on me. I'm having more tests done and he wants to see if I'm a candidate for him to go into my spinal canal and widen it giving my spinal cord and the roots more room. That sounds scary, but it would be a better outcome if it works
