There is a link between the amount of sugar people eat in a country and the amount of people that have diabetes GLOBALLY, but not in Northern Europe for example.

This simplified graph based on self reported data as well as USDA data on how much sugar people buy shows how sugar consumption has FALLEN in the last decade, but obesity is still rising. Similar trends have been seen for high fructose corn syrup.

Thus its not just the sugar that's making us fat, but probably more food TYPES that make us eat more calories: ultra-processed low quality foods.
