Introducing myself and starting a training log here

Thanks man. I'm definitely amateur, but I like it alot ... no genetics for it but every step forward is all the more rewarding. The ripped part is half genetics and half being single

Wes is good! Working a lot and not much free time, but good. The PR's he's hitting lately are incredible ... you know there's no exaggeration in these numbers ... in the past couple weeks at 198 lbs body weight he's hit 350x10 bench press with a messed up elbow, 700x3 squats, DB bench with over his bodyweight in each hand 200 lb DB's just barely didn't lock out his bad elbow ... just incredible stuff. If I ever make it even close to his strength I'd have hit my lofty goals. If you click on my videos through one of those youtube videos I posted above you can see some pretty good videos of him .. The one of us at work is funny but the hammer guarantee one is the best by far lol

Damn man, you are fucking lean! It's crazy how you find powerlifters with bodybuilder physiques and more than a few "bodybuilders" that never end up looking like anything more than a huge powerlifter

Thanks man. For me it's diet and realizing I just work better lean, although lately it's more than usual. I got up to 210 last year, went down to 198 for that last meet, and then dropped a few pounds being lazy after the meet. When I started training hard again I was hitting the same numbers 30 lbs lighter so I'm working up again from there. Part of it, beyond just skinny guy genetics, is I just don't do well with carbs, so i cycle them to get the calories I need but still feel good, and just a couple days low carbs melts every once of fat off me. And I like the whole shredded PL thing... look at Ed Coan and Kirk Karwoski... or in strongman Derek or Marius ... most of the best ever outside of the superheavyweights where pretty lean

I took Friday and yesterday off, but Friday I had the brilliant idea to try taking an ice bath for my sore back, knees, everything, etc... it didn't work out so well. My girl's in Florida and had to see it, so I recorded it ... any chance to watch myself on video haha

Thanks for the support bro! I've had I think 3 days off the gym now and lower than usual volume the entire week so tomorrow I'm well rested and going for 5 wheels on a full depth squat which is my white whale and a big PR for me that I've been chasing a while ... thanks for the motivating post! Hopefully I'll have a PR video tomorrow now that I've announced my goal and can't bitch out!

Go get 5 plates today buddy! Hell yeah, I'll be checking tonight to see the video!!!

I ended up having to help a friend with something yesterday and getting to the local fitness gym I go to on weekends a half hour before it closed ... barely had time to hit a single every 90 lbs warming up. Ended up trying 495 with the last employee there standing over my shoulder complaining he wanted to leave. It was a mess .. my form was way off, my walk out killed me, and it was a fail ... but I'm thinking in a week or so I'll have it.... I think the video looks worse than it is ... if I had sat back farther it would've made a big difference, and i'll probably try it from a monolith next attempt. I'm about 2" high at the bottom here but thats fine, I always try to jump 50 lbs and hit the weight a little high and then practice it until I hit depth when making new PR's. I don't know if it's most effective but i like chasing PR's too much to wait until I'm ready to drop all the way down to try a new weight. Here's my more embarrassing than usual video...

Squat PR!! Finally 495 lbs

So I took yesterday off, more due to too many other responsibilities than wanting a rest day, and when I got to the gym I figured I'd give that 495 lb squat PR another try. Ended up doing it, and pretty easily, but very sloppy and a bit high. I've been trying to save my svelte narrow hips by squatting a little more narrow lol but screw that my leverages work much better with a wider stance. This was pretty much the extent of my workout, with maybe 50 or 60 pullups throughout my squat warm ups and sets to stretch my back and get a little upper body work in. I'm weighing about 192 right now.

Here's the video ... a few inches high, a little shaky, but at last my 495 lb squat:

Deadlifted for the first time since tearing that back muscle. I was actually scared. Normally my mindset is I'll pull till I hear a disc hitting the wall ... not literally but I'll pull through alot... I hope I get past this new slight thread of intimidation. I worked up to a double at 495 and then moved onto some assistance work and then did supersets of OH press with bent over explosive BB rows ... worked up to a 205 lb OH press (with a little push) and for a row a double with 315. I really need to bring up my OH press. Phone died I only caught the pulls, but you can see even though I'm pulling carefully they're pretty light, so hopefully I'll be hitting some decent PR's for DL soon...

Incidentally I always round my upper back like that when pulling ... more than that sometimes... It helps me pull bigger but looks like crap.

It's funny I still remember the tips I read here when I first tried to deadlift and was just a "lurker" on this site that Get_Swole posted The Dirty Dozen: 12 Tips for Heavier Pulls

Thanks Get_Swole! I could only pull 315 and that was what just a few years ago when I was just starting heavier training. Especially the shoulder blades back and down tip seems to help me start the pull in the right groove and keep the weight close to me without thinking about it.

lower back strength is slowly coming back ... had 3 heavy workouts in the 5 days since my last post consisting of mostly heavy triples of squats, weighted pull ups and rows and reverse and regular grip bench. Yesterday I pulled again, followed by narrow grip BP working up to 285x5 and DB rows 125x16 with some pullups throughout and jumped around with assistance work. The DL pulls went better than 5 days ago but still feel disproportionately weak in my lower back:
