Alpha Lipoic acid is a mitochondrial fatty acid with really interesting properties. It's been extensively studied for a multitude of benefits, but perhaps the most applicable benefits are its use as an anti-oxidant and a tool to manage blood glucose levels/insulin sensitivity. It's been shown to reduce General biomarkers for oxidation, inflammatory cytosine and lipid peroxidation(generation of free radicals).

In a meta analysis, ALA was shown to be a viable treatment option for type 2 diabetes. It can increase expression of GLUT-4, the protein than shuttles glucose into your cells. It can also decrease the activity of PTP1B, a negative regulator insulin response as well as interacting with IRS-1(insulin receptor substrate 1). Normal dose is between 100-250mg 2-3x a day. Note: this picture shows the R isomer, which was shown to increase ALA levels 40-50% greater than the S isomer. R-ALA is one of the most important ingredients in #glycolog and works via a different mechanism than most of the other ingredients to reduce blood glucose levels and increase glucose uptake in muscle cells.
