Powerlifter Russel Orhii seems to reach his goals pretty successfully. On the 25th of December, Orhii impressed his social media followers with an amazing squat PR and showed a great conclusion of the 2018 competitive season. Watch his Instagram video, in which Russel unofficially beats the IPF Open Classic -83kg World Record by hitting a big 700lb squat. Australian powerlifter Nathan Tanis is the holder of the current IPF record after hitting 674lbs earlier in November.
Russel mentioned his intention to squat 700lbs a couple of times already in his YouTube videos and social media posts. And he did it! That’s what he writes in the description to his Instagram video:
“700lbs/317.5kg There’s not much to say tbh. At the start of 2018 I planned to hit a 700lb squat by the end of the year and I did it right before New Years. I have new goals going forward and I have no doubts that I’ll reach them. The journey continues…”
In June, Russel Orhii took the second place after Brett Gibbs at the 2018 IPF Classic Powerlifting Championships. He finished with a best 658lbs squat, which remained a world record for a while until Gibbs topped it with his 659lbs third attempt.
At the 2018 USAPL Raw Nationals meet in October, Orhii became a winner after showing his really strong performance. At that meet, he hit a 662lb second attempt squat. It was the heaviest attempt out of all athletes in -83kg weight class, as well as an unofficial world record. However, his third attempt of 679lbs was missed.
After his latest 700lb squat PR, we can expect some great performances from Russel in 2019.
