Earlier, we previewed the women’s CrossFit field as a whole for the 2022 Rogue Invitational. As the competition is drawing nearer, it’s time to take a stab at predicting the eventual finish. We’ll also provide a little insight into what to expect from each individual female athlete.
The 2022 Rogue Invitational is slated to take place from October 28 to 30 at the Dell Diamond stadium in Round Rock, Texas. Though many may tune into the Invitational for its notable strongman competition and Rogue Record Breakers series, this year is all set for a solid showing from some of the biggest names in CrossFit.

The winningest Individual athlete in CrossFit history, Tia-Clair Toomey, has an open (and not declined) invitation to the 2022 Rogue Invitational. But as it doesn’t look likely that the legend herself will compete in the Individual women’s field, the door is wide open for veterans and rising stars alike to stake their claim. Here’s who we think will make their moves at Rogue, from first to 20th place.

1st: Annie Thorisdottir

Age: 33 years old
Country: Iceland
2022 Season Stats: Open: 18th / QF: 12th team / SF: 1st team / Games: 4th team
Past Rogue Placements: 2nd in 2021 / 3rd in 2019

Thorisdottir is a veteran in this sport, yet here she is, still competing and thriving against the best women on the planet. She pushed Toomey to the wire last year at Rogue and was in the battle to win the competition until the final event. Although she competed with her team, CrossFit Reykjavík, at the 2022 NOBULL CrossFit Games, she is back on the field as an individual competitor.

[Related: These Are Some of the Best Photos From the 2022 CrossFit Games]
Thorisdottir will not have a big hole in her game as some of the other biggest threats besides her to win this competition will. Heading into the final event last year, she had taken sixth place or better on every workout, including winning two events (Go Ruck and the Mule).
She took 13th in the finale, but at that point, it was only between her and Toomey. The mere fact that she had a chance to win puts her in a category of one (herself) when it comes to someone threatening to beat Toomey in a live competition since 2017. She may not have been in the individual Games field for 2022, but she deserves to be the favorite for Rogue.
2nd: Laura Horvath

Age: 25 years old
Country: Hungary
2022 Season Stats: Open: 103rd / QF: 21st / SF: 1st / Games: 3rd
Past Rogue Placements: 4th in 2021 / 5th in 2020 / 19th in 2019 (DQ)

Horvath’s history at the Rogue Invitational isn’t stellar by her standards. She got fourth in 2021, fifth the year before that (online), and disqualified (DQed) for failure to meet the minimum work requirement in 2019.
This contrasts with her Games finishes (3rd in 2022, 2nd in 2021 and 2018), where she’s the fittest ranking woman competing at Rogue this year. However, a near-last Games finish on what seems like an inevitable strict handstand push-up workout will likely keep her off the top spot.

[Related: New Competition Map, Standardized Programming, and More Changes to the 2023 CrossFit Season]
Rogue has had strict handstand push-ups all of its three years. In 2019, Horvath was disqualified from the competition because she couldn’t even do one rep. In 2020, she was 13th out of 17th on the chipper, which had strict handstand push-ups in the middle of them. Then in 2021, the Games star was 19th out of 20 on the chipper event, which also had strict handstand pushups. It’s her biggest and really only weakness, Rogue always programs it, and she likely won’t be able to win because of it.
3rd: Gabriela Miga?a

Age: 23 years old
Country: Poland
2022 Season Stats: Open: 13th / QF: 3rd / SF: 3rd / Games: 8th
Past Rogue Placements: 3rd in 2021

Migala isn’t necessarily coming off her strongest Games performance (she was 8th in 2022 after being 6th in 2021), but she had a great off-season. Not only was she third at Rogue last year, but she also took third at the 2021 Dubai CrossFit Championships (now the Dubai Fitness Championships).

She’s got a skill set that suits the programming at Rogue well, having placed in the top 10 in every workout other than the chipper last year. Migala is strong, has good power output, and the fact that she won the Capitol event at the 2022 Games can not be overlooked. She can both run and move heavy objects long distances, two things Rogue is all about. All things considered, Migala should be in line for another podium run this year.
4th: Kara Saunders

Age: 32 years old
Country: Australia
2022 Season Stats: Open 43rd / QF 2nd / SF 2nd / Games 7th
Past Rogue Placements: 3rd in 2020

Saunders will be making her live Rogue debut in Round Rock. It will be exciting to see if she can replicate a very impressive online performance from the 2020 version of the Rogue Invitational. She famously did those workouts in the night and still managed to best many other top contenders in the women’s field that year.
5th: Danielle Brandon

Age: 26 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 56th / QF: 6th / SF: 1st / Games: 4th
Past Rogue Placements: 11th in 2021 / 15th in 2020

On paper, it looks like Rogue is not set up to be a great competition for Brandon; after all, she hasn’t seen success at this competition before.
However, if you look at her Games finishes before this summer (10th, 15th, 11th), they look the same. It seems that the 2022 version of Brandon is an elevated athlete. Winning the Mid-Atlantic CrossFit Challenge Semifinal and going on to threaten for a podium spot is very different than previous performances. It’s time for her to show that she has in fact improved as an athlete and that the 2022 Games were not a fluke.
6th: Emma Lawson

Age: 17 years old
Country: Canada
2022 Season Stats: Open: 102nd / QF: 10th / SF: 1st / Games: 6th
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

Lawson is coming off a phenomenal performance in her Individual debut at the elite level this past summer, taking sixth amongst the best women in the world in the sport. One might note that she did seem to struggle in the tests that featured heavy implements; therefore she may not do as well at Rogue.

Haley Adams has had similar struggles at the Games with heavy tests, but that hasn’t prevented her from doing similarly well at Rogue (5th last year and 8th online in 2020). Lawson demonstrated tremendous work capacity and composure throughout the 2022 season. This counts quite a bit and should keep her well within the top 10, even if she takes a low finish on one or two strength-focused workouts.
7th: Alexis Raptis

Age: 23 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 7th / QF: 5th / SF: 2nd / Games: 10th
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

In an era where new young women are making big names for themselves, it’s easy to lose sight of someone like Raptis. She’s a little older and hasn’t done as well as women like Mallory O’Brien, Adams, and Lawson. But Raptis is basically the same age as other phenomenal women on this list, like Horvath and Migala.
The upward trajectory of Raptis’ career is worth noting. She went from barely missing the Games in 2021, to a comfortable qualification and subsequent top-10 finish at the Games in 2022. It’s a difficult field to make a splash in, but Raptis has been making ripples. Those might turn into some waves at Rogue.
8th: Amanda Barnhart

Age: 30 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 20th / QF: 8th / SF: 2nd / Games: 14th
Past Rogue Placements: 10th in 2021 / 7th in 2020

Barnhart is coming off her worst CrossFit Games finish since taking 15th as a rookie in 2018. She’s recently made some changes to her life (moving back to Ohio) and training environment. On paper she seems like a candidate to excel at Rogue, but her finishes there have been pretty similar to what she’s accomplished at the Games.

Barnhart is an exciting athlete to watch. She can win events, and she can come close to last, but across the total spectrum she almost always manages to do well in the end. Five of the women who beat her at the Games are not in this field, so there should be plenty of runway for Barnhart to notch another top-10 finish.
9th: Emma McQuaid

Age: 32 years old
Country: Ireland
2022 Season Stats: Open: 6th / QF: 10th / SF: 2nd / Games: 12th
Past Rogue Placements: 9th in 2021

If you aren’t thinking about McQuaid as the picture of consistent performance in the women’s field, it might be time to adjust your mental picture. She’s good at pretty much every style of competition (from the Open and Quarterfinals to Semifinals and the Games).
McQuaid’s event finishes at the 2021 Rogue Invitational ranged from eighth to 14th. While women both above and below her were having big swings in terms of high and low finishes, she stayed steady throughout. It’s not the recipe for a podium finish, but it is the recipe to be inside the top 10 once again.
10th: Dani Speegle

Age: 28 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 14th / QF: 60th / SF: 3rd / Games: 17th
Past Rogue Placements: 8th in 2019

Quite contrary to McQuaid, but more similarly to Barnhart, we can expect high and lows from Speegle, especially at the Rogue Invitational. In 2019, when she competed at the inaugural competition, she had three top-five finishes. But she also contended with two finishes of last and fourth to last.

Having an athlete like Speegle in the field will create fireworks in at least one event. Her overall fitness should still be good enough for a respectable finish overall, but those big hits may be coupled with some big slips, leading to a middle-of-the-pack finish by the end of the competition.
11th: Olivia Kerstetter

Age: 16 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 69th / QF: 19th / SF: 1st Girls (16-17) / Games: 1st Girls (16-17)
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

There have been a wave of Games champions from the Teen divisions making a move into the elite individual field in the last few years, and Kerstetter appears to be next in line. Although this will be her first foray into the open field for Individual women, she’s been on the radar for quite some time. Her older sister was competitive in the teenage ranks before her, and both of them have been making appearances on CrossFit great Jacob Heppner’s Instagram going back several years.
Kerstetter is quite strong for her age — in 2021, she snatched 202 pounds at the Games (which bested the 200-pound snatch by Tia-Clair Toomey that won Event 12 for the Individual women that same year). This will be a great opportunity for her to assess the rest of her skills and fitness against some of the best women in the sport. Regardless of finish, qualifying for Rogue is a great accomplishment for her this year.
12th: Ellie Turner

Age: 24 years old
Country: Australia
2022 Season Stats: Open: 7th / QF: 15th / SF: 3rd / Games: 18th
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

After missing the final cut in 2021 at the Games, Turner was able to surge into the top 20, placing 18th in 2022. She is a rookie at Rogue, but she showed a capacity for doing well at offseason competitions last year when she took sixth at Wodapalooza.

In 2021, she switched her training environment and has been working hard alongside two-time Fittest Man on Earth® Justin Medeiros. It’s a difficult women’s field to climb the ranks in right now, but it also seems like Turner is improving. We’ll see how high she can push in her first appearance at Rogue.
13th: Jacqueline Dahlstrom

Age: 30 years old
Country: Norway
2022 Season Stats: Open: 87th / QF: 12th / SF: 1st / Games: 15th
Past Rogue Placements: 20th in 2021

Dahlstrom has been around for a while, having first competed at the Meridian Regional in 2016. However, she’s emerged as a top competitor over the last two years, placing 17th and 15th at the Games.
Unfortunately, she was last at Rogue in her rookie debut in 2021 and will need to improve on a performance that saw five bottom-five finishes from her. Rogue may not be ideal for her as an athlete who is generally great at bodyweight gymnastics workouts. But she showcased grit and strength from her at the Sandbag Ladder event at the Games this past summer. She might be able to channel that strength into better performances this time around at Rogue.
14th: Arielle Loewen

Age: 28 years old
Country: United States
2022 Season Stats: Open: 16th / QF: 16th / S:F 6th / LCQ: 1st / Games: 11th
Past Rogue Placements: 13th in 2021

Loewen could be placed higher than this on paper, with some of the names missing from the field this year. Like Dahlstrom, she’s been around for a while, making her Regional debut in the South Central in 2014, and has only just jumped into the elite ranks these past two seasons. Thus far, she’s gotten the better of athletes like Turner and Dahlstrom at major competitions. Time will tell if they’ve closed the gap or not.
15th: Carolyne Prevost

Age: 32 years old
Country: Canada
2022 Season Stats: Open: 34th / QF: 66th / SF: 5th / Games: 23rd
Past Rogue Placements: 18th in 2021 / 6th in 2020

Prevost will be making her third consecutive appearance at a Rogue Invitational. She had a great sixth-place finish in the online 2020 competition but struggled last year, taking 18th at the live competition in Round Rock, TX. She also is a Rogue Record Breaker winner in the max deadlifts for reps event from 2021.
Prevost has had ups and downs in her career. While it’s great to have her in this field, it seems more likely to see a finish closer to what happened in 2021 than 2020, given the style of competition and overall caliber of athletes in the women’s division. There are a handful of athletes Prevost beat online in 2020 that she has not been able to defeat since.
16th: Manon Angonese

Age: 29 years old
Country: Belgium
2022 Season Stats: Open: 226th / QF: 1,843rd* / SF – / Games –
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

*Angonese was penalized heavily for not submitting her Qualifiers video on time.
Angonese comes in as the winner of Rogue’s online qualifier, known as “the Q.” However, she had an abrupt and disappointing end to her 2022 Games season when she failed to submit one of her Quarterfinals scores within the submission window and was thus prevented from moving on to Semifinals.

She has had a busy off-season. In addition to Rogue, she’s qualified for both the Dubai Fitness Championship (8th) and Wodapalooza (19th) via their respective online qualifiers. She is certainly making the most of the off-season opportunities. The first stop on her tour in terms of live competition is Rogue, and this will be the biggest stage she’s competed at yet. Look for her to show out if the right lifting event comes out; she won the “Lift-Off” event with a 115-kilogram (253.5-pound) clean & jerk in Dubai last year.
17th: Matilde Garnes

Age: 26 years old
Country: Norway
2022 Season Stats: Open: 11th / QF: 25th / SF: 4th / Games: 19th
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

Garnes had a solid rookie appearance at the Games this past summer, placing in the top half of the field. Unfortunately, some of her best event finishes came in Bike to Work (seventh) and Rinse ‘N’ Repeat (eighth), which featured off-road biking and swimming — which haven’t appeared in Rogue’s programming.
However, Garnes also did quite well on Shuttle to Overhead B (fifth) and Up and Over (seventh), which feature two things (overhead pressing strength and ring muscle-ups, respectively) that we are accustomed to seeing at Rogue.
18th: Anikha Greer

Age: 19 years old
Country: Canada
2022 Season Stats: Open: 727th / QF – / SF – / Games –
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

Like Angonese, Greer’s 2022 season ended abruptly due to internet mishaps during the Quarterfinals, where she failed to upload a workout correctly and was disqualified. She broke onto the scene during Wodapalooza in 2022 when she smashed the ‘Celebrate Ten’ event on Saturday night under the lights of Flagler stage.
That performance alone catapulted the young talent into the spotlight and had many clamoring to see how she would fare in the 2022 season. Because of the unfortunate situation during Quarterfinals, we have been unable to get that answer yet. This will change now that she’s qualified for Rogue.
19th: Bailey Rogers

Age: 31 years old
Country: New Zealand
2022 Season Stats: Open: 155th / QF: 53rd / SF: 6th / Games –
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

Rogers has been around the sport for a long time (2016 Pacific Regionals as an individual and 2017 CrossFit Games with Functional Strength CrossFit) but hasn’t had much opportunity to shine on the international stage.

[Related: Everything You Need to Know About Progressive Overload for CrossFit Training]
The Oceania women’s field is very competitive, and she’s placed seventh (2021) and sixth (2022) in their last two Semifinals. In 2022, her performance at Torian Pro was remarkably consistent, taking somewhere between fifth and ninth on all six scored events. The year before, she had a lot more variability in event finish, including an event win on the clean & jerk ladder with a final lift of 111 kilograms (244.7 pounds).
20th: Andrea Solberg

Age: 26 years old
Country: Norway
2022 Season Stats: Open: 9th / QF: 158th / SF: 14th / Games –
Past Rogue Placements: N/A

The third Norwegian in the field is Andrea Solberg, who had a phenomenal start to the season with a top-10 finish in the Open. She struggled a bit during the Quarterfinals but managed to make it into Semifinals in Europe just fine.
Her two worst finishes were the two standardized workouts during Semifinals (legless rope climbs and the Barbell Complex). In particular, her complex lift of 178.6 pounds was amongst the worst of any woman across all of the Semifinals. Strength will be her biggest challenge in this competition, and a competition known for demanding strength to excel could be a tough go for Solberg.
Stay Tuned
The 2022 Rogue Invitational CrossFit already sees its share of suspense. Tia-Clair Toomey has teased that she hasn’t declined her open invite to the competition. Guilherme Malheiros pulled out of the roster (replaced by Henrik Haapalainen) two weeks ahead of the event. With so much upheaval already apparent, Rogue promises to host a CrossFit battle worth watching.

  • Age: 16 years old
  • Country: United States
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 69th / QF: 19th / SF: 1st Girls (16-17) / Games: 1st Girls (16-17)
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

  • Age: 24 years old
  • Country: Australia
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 7th / QF: 15th / SF: 3rd / Games: 18th
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

  • Age: 30 years old
  • Country: Norway
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 87th / QF: 12th / SF: 1st / Games: 15th
  • Past Rogue Placements: 20th in 2021

  • Age: 28 years old
  • Country: United States
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 16th / QF: 16th / S:F 6th / LCQ: 1st / Games: 11th
  • Past Rogue Placements: 13th in 2021

Loewen could be placed higher than this on paper, with some of the names missing from the field this year. Like Dahlstrom, she’s been around for a while, making her Regional debut in the South Central in 2014, and has only just jumped into the elite ranks these past two seasons. Thus far, she’s gotten the better of athletes like Turner and Dahlstrom at major competitions. Time will tell if they’ve closed the gap or not.

15th: Carolyne Prevost
  • Age: 32 years old
  • Country: Canada
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 34th / QF: 66th / SF: 5th / Games: 23rd
  • Past Rogue Placements: 18th in 2021 / 6th in 2020

  • Age: 29 years old
  • Country: Belgium
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 226th / QF: 1,843rd* / SF – / Games –
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

  • Age: 26 years old
  • Country: Norway
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 11th / QF: 25th / SF: 4th / Games: 19th
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

  • Age: 19 years old
  • Country: Canada
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 727th / QF – / SF – / Games –
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

  • Age: 31 years old
  • Country: New Zealand
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 155th / QF: 53rd / SF: 6th / Games –
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A

Rogers has been around the sport for a long time (2016 Pacific Regionals as an individual and 2017 CrossFit Games with Functional Strength CrossFit) but hasn’t had much opportunity to shine on the international stage.

  • Age: 26 years old
  • Country: Norway
  • 2022 Season Stats: Open: 9th / QF: 158th / SF: 14th / Games –
  • Past Rogue Placements: N/A
