This is old news, but it still pisses me off nonetheless. I don't like it when athletes and team administrators are fined for speaking critically of refs and/or the organization. Reminds me of communism. Fuck the NBA vice president.

Good News! Lakers are headed for the playoffs. The bad news, Phil Jackson has been fined $35,000 for his remarks against Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant. Jackson was quoted saying, "I think of a lot of the referees are treating him like a superstar. He gets to the line easily and often. Yeah, by the calls he gets, he really gets to the line alot, I'll tell ya. There's a couple of plays in the last game where I was pretty curious how he got there."

Could these remarks be a verbal response towards Durant being the leader in free throws in the NBA? Durant's response to the Oklahomen "I work so hard, and obviously since he's not around he doesn't see how hard I work and how much I've gotten better through the seaon. It's kind of unfortunate for him to say that about me."

The NBA fined the superstar coach for his remarks, specifically the line about the referees. This is not the first of such remarks and fines for Jackson. He has also made disparaging remarks against the Sacramento Kings and Denver Nuggets.

Is this a type of mindgame warfare on the courts for Jackson?

Previous remarks by Jackson before heading into playoffs left a type of "curse" on the opponents as they almost lost their focus, and lost their game. Such with the case of the Denver Nuggets, in which Jackson called Dahntay Jones a "dirty player".

Did Jackson's remarks affect Durant?

Durant continued his rebuttal to the Oklahomen, "Yeah, it does....because it's taking away from what I do. That's a part of my game, getting to the free throw line and being agressive. If you say that I get superstar calls or I get babied by the refs, that's just taking away from how I play. That's disprespectful to me."

$35,000 seems a small price to pay for another championship title.
