Help needed with melt tests
It's pretty simple, I am not sure if I am missing something or not.
I have stanozolol and I put a small quantity in a beaker. I then put the beaker on a hot plate that can go up to 300 degrees Celsius. I started with 200 then 220, then 230, then 240 and just let it sit at 240 for like ten minutes and I could only see what looked like the powder starting to burn, it was turning yellow around the edges of the sample. I then set it at 245 and still it did not melt. I then went to 250 then 255 degrees and still no melting. The edges of the small sample pile do look like they maybe wanted to start melting and the yellowish color did get stronger around the edges.
Is my method flawed? How do you guys conduct melt tests?
I am going to try to melt test some mast e later this weekend, it's possible that the high melting temp of stanozolol is the issue. Like even though the plate is hot enough not enough heat is being transferred and retained in the beaker.
Should I just place the sample directly on the hot plate it is a large metal square so if the sample is small enough then it shouldn't make it to the edges once melted?
Please any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. I know if I contact the supplier they will just have some excuse insinuating the issue is on my end.jimbosmith316 thanked for this postjimbosmith316 liked this post

If I was making the finished product yes I should definitely stir it. I am just melt testing it, making sure it melts at the proper temperature to indicate a fairly pure product. Since it is a test I only use a very small amount, probably the same amount you would use if using one of those reaction tests.
