This study compared one group consuming a diet using MCT oil with another group consuming a diet using LCT oil. The diets had the same caloric content and were designed to maintain bodyweight. The MCT group lost more weight and significantly more weight from fat than the LCT group! This is probably due to the fact that MCT oils have been shown to increase overall energy expenditure.

Could this be due to the fact that MCT oil can't be used to store as fat. It can only be used as a fuel source?

It goes a little deeper here because not all MCT oils are the same. Typically your C8 (caprylic acid)and C10 (capric acid) version of MCT are of much higher quality than C12 (Lauric acid).
 
Very true. John Parrillo had Captri out years ago that was a MCT. He has forgot more than most will ever know about diet and nutrition.
 
Just a reminder if you do take MCT oil, take a small amount to start and work your way up.................too much MCT and you have instant diarrhea!!
