Thyroid Dysf./Weight Loss/Cytomel

Hello- I was recently diagnosed as hypothyroid. I was put on Cytomel 5mcg twice a day.  I spin 4 times per week and weight lift twice per week. I am carrying around an extra 25 pounds that I can not shake. I have gotten fit in the past year - going from size 10 to 6 - wihtout any fat loss. SO the fat has to come off to see any muscles etc.  Does anyone have any recommendations on how to do this. I was told about the cycling thing - but am a bit afraid of that.  ALthough lab tests show that the T3 is now in the right range- I am still very cold all the time, can't shake the weight, and have alow temp & blood pressure.  So - you know how doctors are- (even though I am one) - they tend to treat the labsheet and overlook the patient shivering in front of them

What are you a doctor in, because I don't want to say anything you may consider "unethical"

As you have a thyroid disfunction your metabolism is going to be really low.  This we know.  Now we also know that the body PREFERS to utilise protein and carbs as its initial form of energy.  Agreed.

After researching into these ketogenic diets, its seems that by depriving your body (short periods) of carbs and increasing fat intake your body is FORCED to utilise the fat calories.

I have talked to people on and off this board and those who have tried these diets (the Anabolic Diet especially) swear to have lost, on average, 20+ lbs of FAT weight over an average 3month period.

I therefore recommend you give this a go.

I would also ask your physician about increasing the T3 intake if blood pressure and temp are low.

Hope it helped.

Hi BJ- I am a general dentist, with advanced training for muslce/TMJ problems.  You will not offend me by whatever you say. I delve into alternative methods - and have some "issues" with allopathic medicine and it's linability to come to middle ground.  Thus my venture here into other perspectives and avenues of information.  I increased the dosage of Cytomel myself.  I will take it at 20 mcg for a month and then talk to the doc if things look and feel bettrer. I am also going to do a search for the Anabolic Diet and see what comes up.  Is this sumilar to The Atkins Diet?  I wonder - if you go low carb and low fat - then you are forced to use fat stores.  Be sure to have adequate (but not overdosed) protein so muscles dont' break down.  Not actually sure yet. FOrmualting the method of attack at present.  Hope to hear form you again - and thanks for the input.  If I run across anythign else- I will be sure to post it.  There is a great email newsletter about Thryoid problems put out by About.com  I think the address is http://thyroid.about.com/mbody.htm   Anyhow- I will keep you posted. Have you done the Anabolic Diet yourelf?

Minewski, No I haven't done the Anabolic Diet myself but am going to after the New Year.

It is similar to the Atkins Diet BUT is bodybuilder based.  The theory of it is that you have to increase the fat intake so your body believes that that is the main energy source.  If you reduce the fat AND carbs then starvation mode would probably come into play and, with your already low metabolism at the moment, you would probably struggle even more to get rid those fats.

One thing I failed to mention is that, during cutting, a lot of guys and gals, combine clenbuterol with their T3 (I have) and the results were very good to say the least.  A little shaky for a few days but nothing severe.  I should be getting a copy of the Anabolic Diet and, if you wish, I could forward a copy to you.  E-mail me if I can be of any further assistance.

And get your members pic in

hello...

welcome to the board...

this site  has a few a good diets if you are interested.. they may point you in a few good driections..
how long have you been on the doctor prescribed T3.. if your levels  where off in the first place then you need to let them get back before you adjust them yourself.  you hypothyrodism. is prob the reason for the lack of fat. onc the body returns to a normal  level the fat may ust burn off with out having to increase the dosage.

do you lift at all.. or just spin???

sasha

FYI - here is a link to a diet put out by the same guy who put out The Anabolic Diet - calling it the Metabolic Diet - <a href="http://www.qfac.com/exercise_bodybuilding_books/metabolic_diet.html

HI</a> SASHA!  Thanks for your reply. I spin more than I lift - I confess.  However I lift no less than twice a week.  It improves the spin <!--emo&:)--><img src="http://musclechemistry.mantisforums.com/IB3/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'><!--endemo-->  I have been on Cytomel for 2 months.  5 mcg twice per day.   I also take many many supplements - some twice  a say and some three times per day.  Supplements include: Multi INtensive Care Vitamins (twice a day), Vit E with Selenium, Zinc Drink, Mag Glycinate, Ultra Potent C and Chinese Herbals & Botanicals which I can not spell out.  Thanks for your reply and interest.
