Pain in the front of your hip when you squat? There could be a ton of reasons but here are three of the most common that I see and that can be altered to make immediate changes. All three of these have a common denominator and that is the femur is jamming up into front of the hip. In all of these scenarios you are running out of available hip flexion range of motion because of a fault somewhere else.
.
1. A lack of ankle range of motion. When you lack ankle dorsiflexion, you will continue to flex at the hip as you try to achieve depth.
.
2. Your stance is too narrow or your knees are caving in. In both cases (adduction and/or internal rotation) of the femur is occurring at a high level of hip flexion causing a pinch.
.
3. Excessive anterior pelvic tilt. This tilt tips the pelvis forward and decreases the amount the hip can flex before it runs out of room causing a pinch in the front.
