My Sciatica is acting up again👎🏼

We have failed at communication in the past. Sciatica is a term used to describe a cluster of symptoms that either arise from or lead to the sciatic nerve. It is not a diagnosis. This is important because this misconception has lead to so much frustration and failure when trying to deal with this cluster of symptoms.

We have failed because people who have this pain are under the assumption that all "sciatica" must come from the same source and that everyone probably has the same symptoms. That is so far from the truth and every single one of these areas have a different treatment approach. I hope this new series of videos will shed some insight on the complexity of these symptoms. We will begin looking at three nerve roots that give "sciatic" symptoms, then muscular issues, and finally what we call referred pain; which is pain that mimics these symptoms but have other origins.

First on the list is the L4 nerve root in the low back. This one is probably the least "sciatic-type" of issues, but it is the first nerve to start the formation of the sciatic nerve. With compression or irritation you will have back pain that runs around to the front of the thigh and often times into the inside part of the knee. True nerve compression can also have some burning and tingling around the knee. You may feel like straightening the leg completely is difficult or it may even "give out" on you when doing certain task.

Had back surgery over 10 years ago. Lot of things that I have to be very careful about.
