does anyone know what the real size of that earth quake was.. we got reports of it being 7.9 on one channel and 8.4 on a different channel.

and now you say 8.9

CNN, a major news channel here, is reporting 8.8 and MSNBC is reporting 8.9. I'd say CNN is correct because they had a Japanese translator live from over there. I'm a little worried because there's some family on my wife's side that are over there.

This is sad...Not to make fun of the situation, but now all these nut jobs are going to be coming out saying this is the beginning of the end of the world

While flipping through channels during cardio, I caught a clip of an astrophysicist on CNN saying that people always want to blame astronomy for things that happen on earth, but he pretty much said it's all a bunch of crap (I'm sure he said it in a more politcally correct manner, of course! lol)

He also mentioned that the moon doesn't orbit in a circle, it's an ellipse... so while it's true that during different phases of the moon, it's gravitational pull on earth is stronger than during other phases, it doesn't have a big enough impact to control a tsunami... not to mention, we are in the middle of the phases now, so the pull isn't even at it's strongest, therefore it's silly to believe an assumption that the moon has anything to do with what happens below the surface of the earth.

Also, I learned about earthquakes in middle school science. It's an act of god/nature... not the end of the freakin' world. All the people who believe that Nostradamus stuff are :dizzy:

My kid sister is in Korea as a foreign exchange student and she has gotten to experience the threat of this over there. I guess she's not in any immediate danger as all the warnings have been lifted now, but just crazy to think of going through something like this. I was scared enough for her and she wasn't "that" close to it, so I could only imagine how people with family/friends in Japan are reacting

Wow, I'm glad your sister is okay. I'd be afraid for her to even be in Korea considering all the North/South Korean stuff... those NK people are no freakin' joke!

And yes, now that the nuclear plants are affected, that is some seriously scary stuff! :(

Yea, she wanted to go to Japan as her first choice, definitely glad she didn't end up there now. She was scheduled to go there in May for a trip, but I doubt she'll be going now.

That sucks. I've always wanted to go to Japan!

all I know is that it will be a huge clean up job. It is a big mess over there. They even have an oil spil going on due to it. The Nissan and Toyota plants are shut down aswell.

Terrible time to have stock in those companies!!! This will effect gas prices I'm sure, the economy will take a decent hit from this since a lot of intertional business is based in Japan, not sure if this specifically hit a major business market area or not, but there will certainly be a negative impact
