This has happened to me on several occasions. It means that your body is burning muscle for fuel stripping the protein from it and breaking down the nitrogen. Sweat should not smell like ammonia. This has happened to me on the keto diet and low carb diets. So next time smell your sweaty shirt. If it has an ammonia smell to it, your burning muscle. Don't smell it several days later either

Youve never smelt the ammonia type cleaner that people used to use in houses etc? Having worked for years in the fabrication world and doing alot of piping for bottling company's etc. ive had all the exposure to actual ammonia ill ever want. Talk about taking your breath away, ive never been around anything as strong or as deadly. Had a big time leak once and cleared out the area for 2.5 blocks was nuts. Now im just rambling.

Yeah, but you knew what I meant. haha. That stuff smells strong. Sweat can smell like that?! That's crazy, I've never experienced that. Does sweat smell just as strong, or it just has that same odor?

You have't ever had a favorite ball cap that you had forever, sweat in, and didn't wash for a while? Smell the head band and 9/10 of the time it should smell like ammonium. The strength of the smell would depend on the person but mine used to dominate once in a while.

Never really paid attention to that, just assumed it smelled like sweat. Not really a big ball cap wearer anyway though. Cool info though, thanks for posting it. Something to pay attention to from now on.

No not nearly as strong lol. The smelling salts they use are fuckin strong. I forgot about this thread till i posted that article tonight. Next time your at the supermarket go to the cleaning section and find the ammonia open the cap and if its got something covering it put a small hole it in it and smell. Its unmistakeable. If you ever smell real pure ammonia you will wish you hadnt, you cant breath at all just takes your breath away and if its high concentrated can melt your lungs. Scary stuff for sure.
