I would go by bodyfat level. If it was high (over 15% to me) I would naturally diet down before gear. If I was lean after a lay-off I would almost immediately.
It can be something as simple as a ton of sodium in your diet. I eat bland chicken daily and put a ton of salt laden things on it like Worcestershire etc to make it palatable. Cutting back on that keeps my BP under control.
23g for glutes. 27g for quads which makes a very slow push. I make sure the needle doesn’t move around in the muscle to minimize pip which I very rarely get.
