"In Spite of government crack downs, many bodybuilders still purchase black-market steroids and growth hormone on the internet or from local steroid dealers. A study by Zack Smith from Boston Medical Center showed that a significant percentage of black-market products are bogus. More than 30percent of the 'steroids' did not contain any of the drugs listed on their labels. Half of all the products contained different doses than advertised, and 20percent included dangerous contaminants such as tin, lead, and arsenic that can have toxic effects in the nervous system and gastrointestinal tract. Many people are risking serious legal sanctions by purchasing illegal drugs that are either underdosed or contaminated.
