The first half of the 2023 IPF World Classic Championships in St. Julien, Malta, has been undoubtedly historic. In the Men’s 74-kilogram category, Carl Johansson set a new world record raw deadlift of 328 kilograms (723.1 pounds) on his third attempt. Check it out below, courtesy of the IPF’s Instagram page:

Johannson weighed in officially at 73.65 kilograms. Below are the stats from his gold-medal performance; he went a perfect nine for nine in attempts:

252.5 kilograms (556.7 pounds)
262.5 kilograms (578.7 pounds)
267.5 kilograms (589.7 pounds)


Bench Press

170 kilograms (374.8 pounds)
177.5 kilograms (391.3 pounds)
182.5 kilograms (402.3 pounds)


Deadlift

305 kilograms (672.4 pounds)
320 kilograms (705.5 pounds)
328 kilograms (723.1 pounds) — All-Time World Record


Total — 778 kilograms (1,715.2 pounds) — All-Time Junior World Record

Johansson beat silver-medalist Timothy Monigatti of New Zealand via the tie-breaker of lesser body weight. Monigatti officially weighed two-tenths of a kilogram more than Johansson.
The podium for the Men’s 74-kilogram class is as follows:

Timothy Monigatti (NZL) — 778 kilograms (1,715.2 pounds)
Taylor Atwood (USA) — 777.5 kilograms

Bronze-medalist Atwood is the reigning all-time raw world record total holder in the 74-kilogram class, thanks to his 790.5-kilogram performance at the 2019 IPF World Classic Powerlifting Championships, which he won. He has reached the podium at the IPF World Classic Championships on six occasions (bronze in 2023, silver in 2016-17, gold in 2018-19, 2022).
