Dallas police to begin testing for illegal anabolic steroids

The Dallas Police Department plans to start testing officers for illegal anabolic steroids use on July 1.

Police officials said they had been researching incorporating testing for steroids as part of their random drug testing program for at least a year, said Acting Assistant Chief Floyd Simpson.

“It maintains the integrity of what we do and promotes community confidence,” Chief Simpson said. “Nobody knows when they are going to be called for a test.”

Chief Simpson said that other major cities, including Phoenix, Baltimore, Houston and Austin, have started testing for steroids use.

The department has been doing random drug testing for about 15 years. The last person to get fired after testing positive for marijuana was about five years ago, Chief Simpson said.

News of Dallas’ decision comes on the heels of the death of convicted steroids dealer David Jacobs, who authorities say fatally shot himself last week.

Mr. Jacobs had said that he sold steroids to bodybuilders, NFL players and police.

One of the reasons I could never be a cop.....they invade your rights WAY too much.

narcotic drug tests, polygraphs, physical, mental/psychological testing, complete background check including juvenile record (even if it was 30 years ago), credit check, anal prob, family/reference harassment

And now AAS drug tests

Im sure I missed a dozen more.

There are even cops here in Utah that do them as well, believe it or not. I remember there was a really big cop who was pro size/quality when I was in high school that lived in my neighborhood.

Lets not forget about the the Bklyn, NY cops, half of my friends who are cops and fdny are now all about 15-20lbs lighter.. And atleast i know all the younger up and comers in the academy i dont have to worry about looking better then me on the beach this summer...lol

Hmmm--I used to go see a doc here in town that had his own pharmacy. One day the swat team walked in and I thought they were there for a raid--wrong they each signed in and went to the pharmacy to pick up their stuff--i let out a huge sigh of relief.

Seriously, I wonder what they are going to do when they find out so many guys are on them. And I also wonder how "random" this testing is going to be. It'll be interesting to find out.
