Esther Lin, MMA Fighting UFC 258 is down to 10 bouts after a flyweight matchup between Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick was scratched from the card when Robertson fell ill.
Robertson came down with a non-COVID related illness, the UFC announced just hours before the start of Saturday’s card, and was forced to withdraw from the event. Her coach Din Thomas told MMA Fighting her withdrawal was not related to weight-cutting, but she “got really sick” and was unable to fight.
Robertson subsequently posted on Instagram she woke up and vomited Saturday morning and her condition had not improved. She said she is “heartbroken” and apologized to Miranda for her withdrawal.

Robertson was returning to the octagon after a decision loss to Thaila Santos this past December that snapped a two-fight winning streak. Maverick was making her second octagon appearance after a first-round finish in her octagon debut at UFC 254.
It’s unclear whether the matchup will be rescheduled for a later date.
UFC 258 lost another bout at the last minute when lightweight Bobby Green collapsed backstage and was not medically cleared to fight. He later announced via social media that his kidneys failed and he had air pockets in his lungs that led to his condition.
UFC 258’s preliminary card’s scheduled start time will remain for 7 p.m. ET with a welterweight bout between Gabriel Green and Phillip Rowe opening the event.
