I have packed pins in luggage before. I always put them in my checked bags. This was before the deadline for instalation of the new x-ray equipment, but it was in operation already at at least one airport I traveled through.(I'm assuming you are going to fly) I don't like the odds of having to take them in a carry-on. To do that, you need a script and some sort of notice from a Dr. stating that you need to take injectables with you. The airline I asked mentioned insulin, as they thought that was what I was talking about. I think they would really freak on IM pins.
The new x-ray machines are incredibly good at seeing what is in your bags. So, I would suggest keeping them together in a tight bundle, rubber band or something, and including another item with the bundle. maybe a nail clipper and a set of keys... something to mask the outline of the pins a little.
For the most part, they are looking for things that can cause problems onboard. Bombs, and things like that. You can transport knives and such in checked luggage because you have no access to it in flight.
Hope this helps a little.
