I get this huge knot inside my right shoulder blade that runs down my back and makes everything tight as hell on one side...I also get this really bad stinging sensation in the top of my left trap when I pick up anything heavy. The stinging just stays in one spot and doesn't move, but does get severe if I don't stop what I'm doing. The thing is I don't think its just working out related. I've had these both before and they've just gone away. Well now when I work I'm on my feet all day and moving around constantly. And neither seem to be going away... Any suggestions? I haven't lifted back or traps in a while and I ice when I lift other muscle groups. I've had it rubbed out twice but its only temporary relief. I take ibuprofen when needed but its annoying and fucking with my training. :curse::curse::curse:

who rubbed it out? Have you tried a professional deep tissue massage? Seems like the knot is touching a nerve thats probably where the stinging is coming from.

one of my gf's did it so it wasn't professional, i thought nerve too but the stinging doesn't travel anywhere, just stays in one spot.

I would try a specialist sometimes knots and such can get almost under the scapula and you have to know how to get under there. Its painful and harder on big guys like us but they can do it. Could help maybe worth a shot. Hopefully someone else will chime in.

I have had the same problem. Mine was so bad that when I would lay down to go to sleep my back would sieze up so bad I could
hardly breath. First thing I would ask is if your water intake is high. I think one of my problems was I wasent taking in enough water
and it was part of the reason the muscle was cramping up. Dam, I couldn't even sneeze without bracing against a wall. My back is
my strongest bodypart and I couldn't even work it - the pain was so bad. I went to a acpuncturist, a chiropractor and a few massage
places. None of them worked. The massage people werent strong enough to DIG into my back through the muscle. What finally
happened was, someone turned me on to this great chiropractor. He was a judo guy and built like a fire hydrant. He finally pulled
a table into his hallway so he and his physicay therapist could work on me at the same time. They took turns running down my
back with elbows and all their weight. The knot felt like a fish flopping around inside my back.
It was painfull as hell and after a few minutes I could feel their sweat dripping on me. About
3 of these sessions and the knots that had been there for almost a year got broken up. I never had it that bad again.
I would suggest going to a sports medicne guy (preferably BIG AND STRONG) who knows what he is doing to take care of it.
Keep us posted on how it goes and what you do. Luck bro.

This may seem like an odd question but what kind of floor do you work on? I use to get that from walking on tile at a place I worked at. It was nerve damage from a wreck I had in the past, but the shock from that floor caused it. Bro, despite what you may have heard celebrex is still a good option to handle this problem. It is no more dangerous than any other nsaid out there. Aleve is actually just as dangerous. Just a thought. It would take a script to get it but it always gets rid of my lower back issues and knots in my upper shoulders.

If you have insurance just go see an Ortho and have him refer you to a good chiro or someone else let him evaluate it for ya.

I have no insurance so I'm most likely going to ask around to find somone to give me a deep tissue massage. I work in a gym, I'm mainly on the rubber mats or cement floor. I'll let you guys know what I decide and if it works or not. I'm taking 2 days off from lifting and have been taking muscle relaxers and/or percocet, which did make it feel pretty good this morning.

I'm going through the same thing right now... started out with what i thought was a shoulder injury, it hurt to sleep on that side. Then one night after rolling on that side in my sleep i felt a knot under my shoulder blade, near my spine.. and i was praying it wasn't/itsn't a disc issue. I just started back to the gym after taking over 12 weeks off! .. it sucks, b/c all my exercises on major body parts have turned to shit... are alot lighter than I'm used too.. and the ONLY thing that would get rid of the pain (and only turn it into an annoying throb), was aleve.

Now, I will say.. one night i got lucky and somehow laid a certain way, woke up and as i turned my back cracked in 4 places, and the pain in some of the areas lightened without aleve...

Let me ask you this.... b/c you said on your feet all day... I have VERy FLAT FEET. .. about 6yrs ago, I went to a foot doctor who told me my feet were the worst he's seen in 20yrs of medicine. Needless to say, he told me that if I didn't use orthotics (molded foot incerts), which cost over 400 bucks a pair i might add), that I would have about 10yrs before my knees would need total replacement.

Needless to say, I never got the orthotics, but he told me not to wear flip flops, sandles, or any flat shoes... he also told me if i goto the beach, that i need to wear sneakers... never run on the beach, and do low to no impact cardio... he told me that i WILL have back, shoulder, disc, and knee problems... if i didn't do this....

... are your feet flat? .. if they are, you need some sort of orthotics to fit the arche in your feet, it will re-align your spine and the way your body holds its weight against gravity... i'm dealing with the pain right now... and it sucks.. i don't have insurance either, and won't get an MRI or even bring it up to my doc before i have insurance due to the 'prior existing conditions' rule... but it hurts.

Thanks for the info. I do have flat feet, I used to have some cheap ortho's about $40 bucks I bought from a running store that had pretty good arch supports. I'll try and get those again to see if it helps. The thing is this comes and goes...I'll be good for a while and then out of no where it comes back. I've been training for a while so it may be the switch in shoes. It feels pretty good today, hopefully it will feel great tommorow, but then of course I'll be working on my feet all day and lifting again.

ANYTHING for arch support makes a difference. Trust me, and mine comes and goes too.. but when it hits.. it hurts! ... if you find a good pair of cheap ortho's let me know... my feet wear all that stuff down quickly, and i hate to say it.. my feet sweat alot, so my shoes aren't the best smelling out there... which means any ortho's are gonna rot... (wish i was exaggerating) .. lol

let me know what you use, and if it works... and then i'll go spend some $$ on those too and see if it helps me out.. LOL ... flat feet are the worst, and ultimately can mess you up in the long run w/o care... it's a fact..

Stick or anyone else who have had this... When you stand or sit and rotate at the waist (like trying to look behind you) did you ever feel a pull in your in your chest? When I twist to the right I feel a tightness on the inside of my right pec.

the closest that i can say comes close to that is my front delt near the peck muscle.... outter/top .... and the reason being i'd assume is muscle/tendon connection ... but i could have 2 things going on right now... and it 'could' originate from the shoulder...

in regards to your situation.. which peck, what position? .. and which direction is your turn... meaning... when you turn your left/lower outter back hurts so does your right outter top peck muscle hurts too... (for example)... do the directions of your turn have some sort of connection? ... to muscle/tendon tissues? .. (obvious ones?)

-----------

i get tightness when i turn on the inside/top of the direction i'm turning.. meaning... turn right, and inner/middle&top peck muscle feel tight... but i think that might just be natural.. it happens on the other side.. if you have sever pain.. it could be associated w/ injury in your back..

Well...right middle back hurts when I twist right and middle of right pec hurts as well. It's not severe pain just pressure. So yeah, right side on both.

i think that's natural. especially if you're lifting... that happen often or for a couple days after say chest day? .. i think the pressure in the peck is normal.. but that's just me... it happens on both sides...
