So I really don't like posting stories but this one epitomizes the abundence of misinformed people out there.

I manage a GNC, which I realize a lot of you don't respect as a company, however I can honestly say I give my honest opinions of everything I sell and make an honest effort to inform my customers of anyone knowledge or tips I have aquired through my years of experience. So today a mother and her son come into my store and she begins with first insulting my intelligence by claiming I have no knowledge of what I am selling and compared me to a drug pusher peddling these supplements to the highschools kid. Her problem was with Creatine of all things. She was apparently inform by the athelectic director of her son's school that creatine supplementation was dangerous and long-term effects are unknown. Well I kindly informing her that I am into my forth year of persuing a degree in Exercise Science and as part of my studies I have read several clinical studies on the subject of creatine suplementation and have come to the conclusion that when used properly it is safe. Furthermore I informed her that I turn away highschool students trying to buy supplements that may be harmful (prohormones) and only recommend protein, vitamins and perhaps some creatine. Well she couldnt accept the fact that she now looked a little stupid and called my regional manager with a complaint of poor attitude and lack of knowledge. I was pissed I couldnt believe someone would come into an establishment with the sole purpose of picking a fight.....bitches

So let me finish up with two questions, one am I wrong in my conclusion that creatine supplementation when used correctly in safe for highschool athletes and two, other than what is pretty well established as side effects (bloating, cramping, dehydration, and i hear kidney problems) is there anything else.

I know what you mean. I remember a few years back when creatine was "THE"
new supp. and the medical profession wanted any natural supp. that worked to
be perscription only. A high school wrestler died making weight for a match. The
news (I'm in Calif) went on a rant that this was because of the uncontrolled use
of creatine and other natural supp's. The "experts" (doctors) said that it had to be
because of creatine use as this is what all the high school kids were taking and it
was out of control and should be perscribed only by doctors along with all other
natural supps. About 2 weeks later It came out that the autopsy showed that the
kid never took creatine, his heart just couldn't take the radical stress of making
weight. Fucking Idiots. thats what we need - uneducated doctors having controll
over natural supps so us (the educated ones) have to depend on them. Always
comes down to $$$ and control. Thats my rant.

The studies I have read all make creatine out to be safe. Ingesting too much of it can cause bloating, but give me two dozen eggs and I can clear a room pretty fast, so the key is moderation (and it won't kill you - just make everyone else wish you were dead.)

I am not that clear on the potential for kidney problems. If you have a high CPK level, it can be hard on your kidneys. But CPK and Creatine aren't the same thing.

people like that are a lost cause.

should have just sold her whatever she was already gonna buy. Sales go up and no one gets hurt (or results).

I feel you though...but I just wouldnt waste my time.

yeah mcgaret hit the nail on the head, this is the type of shit that people store the little nugget in their head :puke: and then make a big deal of nothing, and all this is probably coming from some lady that probably smokes 3 packs a day-and drinks a gallon of coffee in the morning and a gallon of vodka at night to go along with her fast food...hmm  I wonder if she has a sister?
