Mr. Olympia Thoughts, Predictions and Experience
By IFBB Pro Josh Wade

First off, I’m very excited for this year’s Mr. Olympia competition for lots of reasons. Mainly with it being back in Las Vegas where it has always been since I started following bodybuilding, it feels like life is back to normal and there is nothing like the excitement of Las Vegas! Plus, Vegas in December is a hell of a lot better than Vegas in September! This will be my first time back at the Olympia since 2019 and one of the best things about the Olympia Weekend is the expo: going to all the booths, getting samples and meeting the athletes. I’m looking forward to that and seeing all the fans come by the ALLMAX Nutrition booth.
I feel like this has been one of the most competitive bodybuilding seasons in recent years with so many newcomers and youngsters that have won competitions. The time is coming for some shake-ups and someone new to take the Olympia crown, but I don’t believe it’s going to be this year. Now that Big Ramy has figured out how to nail his condition I think he can retain the title for many years to come, but I’m really excited to see his size compared to the young Nick Walker, Blessing and Andrew Jacked. The Olympia has been won by guys that might not have the size but bring the condition, so we know if Ramy is off, the show would be open for someone to come in nasty condition and take him out. Regardless the comparisons are going to be exciting, and the judges are going to have their hands full with finding the correct placings as it's going to be a very competitive Olympia.
With this being the first Olympia for a lot of the guys competing, I can tell you based on my own experience that the nerves will be nothing like they’ve experienced in prior shows. There are a lot of obligations for the competitors, and it makes for a long weekend of appearances at the expo and the Meet the Athletes. It’s not like a regular competition that you can hang out in your hotel room and rest, so the nerves stay constant – and that’s before you get backstage and see the sheer size of the pump-up area and the TVs all around. I was overwhelmed backstage and then when they lined us up, my heart rate started climbing and almost took my breath away. I remember Steve Kuclo telling me to just breathe, which was easier said than done. Once I got onstage, I felt comfortable as it’s what I’ve done so many times before. It’s an experience that I’ll never forget and the dream of any bodybuilder that ever competes. I wish everyone luck and the spectators are in for one hell of a show!
Road to Best Gains Possible
I’ve been pushing hard but I’m not getting sore anymore, even when increasing weight. Do you think my body has gotten used to my routine?
I do think sometimes changing up your routine could be a shock to the muscle that you need, but most importantly especially when people like you say they are increasing the weight I think they usually lose form and control. The number one thing I preach is to force the contraction and control the resistance. If the muscle isn’t engaged the whole time, you are losing tension and losing stimulation! I always say if it’s burning then it’s working, and really the only way to feel the burn is to control the eccentric (lowering) portion of the exercise. I feel I remind people of this daily and we (myself included) are all guilty of forgetting this at times and just moving the weight. I try to remind myself to “SLOW THE F DOWN.” If I don’t feel it where I’m trying to, then it’s not working! So, stay focused and controlled, making sure you are squeezing the muscle as hard as you can before controlling the resistance. I promise you will get sore in the muscle but the aches and pains in tendons and joints from just heaving weight up and down won’t be what you are feeling, so as you get older you can thank me later.
Another thing to remember that can help with recovery and growth is intra-workout nutrition. Sipping on nutrients that your stomach doesn’t have to digest, therefore not pulling blood from the muscle to the kidneys to aid in digestion, is very important.
Here is my intra-workout stack from Allmax Nutrition that has made a world of difference in my endurance, pump, growth and recovery. I mix all of these ingredients in about 40 ounces of water and sip on it throughout my whole workout, which tastes amazing and keeps my energy 100 percent!
Carbion - 1 scoop Pineapple Mango (50g carbs)
Impact Pump - 1 scoop Blue Raspberry
Aminocore (BCAAs) - 1 scoop Pineapple Mango
Glutamine - 10g (DOMS, insulin sensitivity, gut health, etc.)
Creatine - 5-7g (muscle cell hydration, explosive muscle fiber recruitment, etc.)
Remember, when training it’s not always about getting creative with exercises that makes the most difference. It all boils down to effort, working and feeling it as hard as you can, focusing on the muscle and the area of the muscle you are trying to develop, and then making sure you are taking in quality nutrients and supplements to aid in recovery and growth until you beat that muscle up again! Every workout should benefit you for the next workout. If you aren’t progressing then lighten things up, focus on the feeling again, then increase weight when you can. It’s all just a vicious cycle on your road to your best gains and your best body possible!
Keep pushing, everyone, as you can be better than you ever imagined with hard work and dedication!
