Gleison Tibau | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting The PFL has finalized its roster for the upcoming 2021 season with several more signings.
On Thursday, the promotion announced the additions of welterweights Gleison Tibau, Alexei Kunchenko and Jason Ponet; featherweights Chris Wade and Anthony Dizy, women’s lightweights Kaitlin Young and Taylor Guardado; and light heavyweight Nick Roehrick.
Those signings complete the 60-fighter roster competing across six weight classes.
Following a long run in the UFC, Tibau will make his PFL debut this year while looking to build on a two-fight win streak with his last fight coming in 2019.
With nearly 50 fights on his resume, Tibau has faced the best of the best throughout his entire career while going to battle with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson and Rafael dos Anjos. Now he’ll look to win the $1 million grand prize in the PFL’s welterweight division while competing in the same weight class as former UFC title contender Rory MacDonald as well as Ray Cooper III, who returns after winning the championship in 2019.
Kunchenko will also be joining the welterweight division in the PFL after his run with the UFC came to an end in 2020. Following a pair of wins to start his career with the promotion, Kunchenko dropped back-to-back decisions to Gilbert Burns and Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos, which marked the end of his run with the UFC.
The women’s lightweight division also added two new fighters including Young, who has fought in numerous promotions throughout her career with past battles against Gina Carano, Miesha Tate and Julie Kedzie.
The upcoming PFL season kicks off on April 23 with the main card for each event airing on ESPN2 and the prelims on ESPN+.
