Round 1: Marc Goddard is the third man in the cage for this heavyweight title fight. The fighters touch gloves to kick things off and Miocic leads with a light inside low kick. Miocic is on the outside with DC taking the center but the first minute is very cautious. Good leg kick from Miocic is the first real strike of the fight. Miocic lands a leftt hook but DC snatches a low single and gets a takedown. Miocic is back to his feet but DC is holding the front headlock and lands a good knee. Miocic is stuck there for a few but finally is able to break. DC is clearly coming in with a more measured game plan and Miocic is working the body and legs. Good low kick from DC. Stipe is touching DC and DC lands a big right hand but Miocic eats it. Stipe is looking pretty good here but catches a finger in the eye and Goddard stops it to give Miocic time to recover.
Miocic is good to go now and Goddard give Cormier a serious warning. DC apologies to Miocic and they’re back to business. Low kicks land for both men and DC maybe lands low but Miocic keeps fighting. DC lands a hook to the body and a big right hand lands high for Miocic. Miocic is now firing combinations and Cormier is looking lost. Miocic starts stepping in though and DC is landing some big shots inside. The two get into a brawl against the fence and Cormier wobbles Miocic with a big right hook. Miocic keeps his feet and gets to space and the round ends. That right hand may have been enough to steal the round for Cormier.

Round 2: If Miocic can avoid clinch range, he’s going to cruise to a win but when DC has made it ugly, he’s had a major advantage. Miocic goes for a body kick but ends up landing low. A brief pause to the action and they’re back at it. Miocic blitzes in and lands a lfet hook that gets DC’s attention. And now Stipe threatens a takedown for a moment tot give DC something else to think about. A clinch ensues and Cormier lands three big shots but Miocic eats them. Miocic keeps working the body at range and that’s gonna be a money maker for him. Cormier pressuring and the action is picking up here. Certainly Miocic is picking up his volume and DC is reacting to feints now. A lull in the action in the middle of the round and DC is now pumping a good jab. Good left hook from Miocic. Tactics are changing and this is a real title fight. A clinch occurs and Miocic threatens a trip but doesn’t get it and Miocic is focused on not eating a big shot. DC lands a big right hand. Against, Round 3: Cormier appears to have recovered some but him panicking and getting caught against the fence hurt him and Miocic is now stalking to start the third. Miocic is coming forward but DC lands a right hand that backs him off for a moment. Mioci goes back to the body. Miocic lands a right hand and DC is looking for haymakers. DC is clearly getting tired and there is no wrestling from him a his point. Miocic clinches DC and puts him against the fence and Cormier is clearly trying to rest here. A spinning back elbow from Miocic hits the body and now they are at range again. Cormier maybe looking improved and is pumping the jab again. Miocic punches his way into another clinch and has Cormier against the fence again. DC is definitely getting very tired. Miocic is not doing much with this position though and perhaps this is helping DC.Good right hook from Miocic to exit the clinch. Now DC is marching forward and looks refreshed. Wasn’t expecting that. Moicic still looking spry though. In the clinches, Miocic is tying up DC’s hands and keeping him from landing the KO shot. Big right hand from Miocic and DC lands a good shot of his own. The round ends with Miocic poking DC in the eye accidentally but Goddard doesn’t see it.

Round 4: Wow. Cormier’s eye is basically closed from the eye poke and now DC is keeping a high guard. That could be very disappointing. Still though, DC has landed some good right hands and Miocic clinches and takes DC to the fence. Still no offense there and the break and now DC is in attack bu Miocic lands a right hand that stops that. DC is clearly affected by having one eye but Miocic isn’t quite taking advantage of it. DC is landing good shots though and Miocic clinches again. The two separate and Miocic hasn’t done too much this round and may be slowing down himself. Big right hand snaps Miocic’s head back. Now Miocic is coming forward and DC lands a big right again but Miocic clinches and smother DC against the fence. These two men are just really evenly matched. DC attempts a trip which lets him separate the clinch but Miocic lands a good left hook. Miocic is really starting to go to the clinch to shorten these rounds but no damage. Big right hands from both men land an another from DC. This has been an excellent fight.

Round 5: In the corner, DC’s coaches are calling for wrestling and asking for a finish, not confident in the scorecards. The two men embrace to start the final round and Miocic looks the fresher fighter. Body jabs from Miocic early. Left hand from DC but more counters from Miocic. Good combination from Miocic and he’s picking DC apart early. DC forces a clinch and now he’s got Miocic against the fence but Stipe reverses. Miocic leaning on DC but not much happening either side. Three minutes to go and DC’s corner is trtying to urge him to do something. DC separates. and DC lands a pair of good right hands but Miocic responds. Miocic clinches in the center of the cage and goes for a trip. DC stays up and lands a big right hand. Miocic clinches against and forces DC to the cage. Two minutes left and Miocic is holding on against the fence. He separates and lands a good shot. DC comes forward. Miocic lands a pair of right hands. Miocic shoots and DC stuffs it. Big right hand from DC. Miocic starting to slow. DC coming on strong and clinching Miocic. Miocic gets a second wind and clinches DC. This is a war. 30 seconds left and the clinch remains. Cormier separates with one second left and that’s the end. That fight could go either way, honestly.
