The 155-pound fight is a short-notice matchup put together after the withdrawal of scheduled headliner Islam Makhachev due to complications from a staph infection. Dos Anjos initially campaigned to fight former Bellator lightweight champ Michael Chandler, who made weight as a backup fighter for UFC 254 this past month. But Chandler said he was never offered the bout and wasn’t keen on breaking his plans for an octagon debut that has yet to be announced.
Dos Anjos didn’t have to wait long to find out whether he’d still be fighting on Saturday. Felder, previously scheduled to serve as a commentator at the event, agreed to step up on short notice to fight dos Anjos at 155 pounds in a five-round headliner. Previously, Felder had indicated he was contemplating retirement after a split call loss to Dan Hooker.
Dos Anjos returns to the lightweight division after an eight-fight run at welterweight, where he fought unsuccessfully to take the interim title and went 4-4 overall.
