Who SHOULD compete at the National Level? Thread idea stolen from MD.

Stole this from Dusty Hanshaw, who just won Jr.Nats superheavy's this past year...Thought it would bring on some good disscusions here at MC ...

I read the title of this thread on another board and i thought it was a great question that could bring out a lot of views. What do you think? How does one know when they are ready for the next level? I for one think that there is a lot more to it than just being qualified. Far to many guys and girls end up at the USA's or Nationals just to learn that they are WAY out of their league.

Chris Cook told me about his first National bodybuilding show and it was classic. As usual he was running late so when he got to the venue the weigh ins had already started. After seeing the guys in line he freaked because he was a heavy and he thought he had missed his class weigh-in. He walked up to the closest athlete and said "When did the heavies go?" The guy looked at Chris and said "It will be a bit for the heavies, we are all middles and you still have to wait for the LHW's to weigh in." It was at that point that Chris realized that he was WAY out of his league and had paid a few thousand dollars to get his ass kicked.

Crazy to think that a guy who won the SHW class three times in a row had that experience driving him.

Now thats funny and that shit would have taken the steam right out of me had I experienced that, lol,

So maybe a better question is , do u think its to easy to qualify and should they make it harder to qualify or hand out less spots somehow?

Well I think most shows, should only allow the Overall winner a NQ position...In bigger regional level shows, the class winners get a NQ position...but that will never happen because the NPC would lose money at the National level shows...

Yeah i didnt even think of the losing money aspect of it, but agree only Over alls should get the nod, plus with all these guys that dont belong there just yet makes for some long drawn out shit sometimes

Great Post!!! People ask me all the time why Im not doing a national show, and Im like for what, so I can come in last. If they only knew.

Exactly bro, there arent enough people with a real grasp on reality , which I think i have much like you do, and if I am going to do a show I am going to do it knowing I have a real shot at winning the whole fucking thing and not just to get my feet wet or for the experience like you see alot of guys doing.

Thats not to say for example you yourself dont ever have a shot at winning it! You just know where you need to be and how long it will take you to get there! Plus Im a firm believer in taking plenty of time off between shows to grow as these guys who are always competing and not doing well and not winning are never gonna gain any real size because they are always dieting down and doing shows.

and yes this thread is turning out to be a good one,lol

Alot of small shows will only have 2 guys in a class. Which then will both qualify.
I have seen some guys just show up and take 2nd. Which isnt fair to the guy who took 2nd with 30 guys in his class.

But hey if they want to waste there time and money to do nationals then go ahead.

I think an overall winner or a class winner of certain shows will actual be ready
But if you been to the big stage you know its the Real Deal
