Luis Pena | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Luis Pena and Alex Munoz will face off next month.
Following announcements on social media by both fighters, MMA Fighting confirmed with sources with knowledge of the matchup that Pena (8-3) and Munoz (6-1) will fight in a lightweight bout on April 17 at a UFC Fight Night with a location and headliner still to be determined.
Pena and Munoz were previously scheduled to fight at UFC Norfolk this past February, but Munoz withdrew from that contest with an injury. Instead, Pena faced replacement Steve Garcia and won a unanimous decision.
Four months later, Pena lost by third-round submission to Khama Worthy. He was scheduled for his first appearance of 2021 at UFC Vegas 19, but that bout was cancelled when one of Klose’s cornermen tested positive for COVID-19.
Munoz is coming off of a unanimous decision loss in his UFC debut to Nasrat Haqparast. His first brush with the octagon came when he defeated Nick Newell in a July 2018 Contender Series bout, though he was not initially rewarded with a contract. After winning once more on the regional scene, Munoz was signed to the UFC.
