The fight marks the sixth champ vs. champ fight in octagon history as Adesanya tries to become the fifth UFC fighter told hold belts in two divisions simultaneously. The middleweight champion remains undefeated in his professional career with nine UFC wins.
Adesanya, who weighed in for the fight at 200.5 pounds, will give up a significant amount of weight facing Blachowicz, a career light heavyweight who could be as heavy as 220 pounds on Saturday night. The Nigerian-born middleweight champ will rely on technique to overcome brute strength, though Blachowicz’s fists have been the most powerful piece of his game in his past four performances, three of which ended in knockout wins. Most recently, Blachowicz captured light heavyweight left vacant by Jon Jones with a second-round stoppage of Dominick Reyes. Adesanya, meanwhile, notched the second defense of his middleweight belt with a second-round stoppage of Paulo Costa.
