Dustin Poirier, Conor McGregor battle over donation never made to charity after UFC 257

Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor were essentially cordial to each other leading up to their rematch at UFC 257 but it feels like the trilogy scheduled for July has gotten a little more personal.
The latest back and forth between the lightweight contenders happened this past weekend after McGregor offered his prediction for the trilogy. In response, Poirier didn’t counter with his own expectations for the fight but instead he took aim at McGregor’s promised donation to his Good Fight Foundation charity that apparently never happened.
“That’s a fun prediction! You also predicted a donation to my foundation and you and your team stopped responding after the fight in January,” Poirier wrote on Twitter. “See you soon. July 10th Paid In Full!”

Prior to their fight back in January, McGregor had committed to a $500,000 donation to Poirier’s charity where he’s taken on several initiatives including digging new water wells in Uganda as well as local work in Louisiana such as providing car seats to new mothers and purchasing school supplies for children in need.
After Poirier took aim at McGregor failing to follow through on his contribution to the charity, the Irish superstar fired back while claiming that the former interim champion failed to actually detail what his money would be used for following the donation.
In not so subtle language, McGregor seemed to hint that Poirier was more interested in the money than what it would do for charity because he did the same thing by choosing their upcoming trilogy rather than going for the UFC lightweight title.
“A donation, not a debt,” McGregor said in response. “We’ve been awaiting the plans for the money that never came. I do with all my donations. Know where it’s going dot for dot. Otherwise it goes walking. As is the case with a lot of these foundations, sadly. You took the McG over the belt shows I was right.”

Following that message, Poirier sent one more back to McGregor reminding him of the commitment he made as well as attempt to reach out to his team to explain where the money was going.
In the end, Poirier finally offered a promise of his own ahead of the trilogy in July.
“100% never a debt,” Poirier said. “You offered, we accepted, and like I said your Team never responded to our emails regarding the process of where funds would be put to work! July 10th you will taste defeat yet Again.”

Judging by these exchanges, it’s not likely Poirier and McGregor will be sharing many hugs or handshakes as they prepare to clash for a third time at UFC 264.
