Multiple people with knowledge of the promotion’s plans confirmed to MMA Fighting that a featherweight bout between promotional debutantes Kai Kamaka III and Tony Kelley is being finalized for UFC 252 this Saturday night following an initial report by MMA Junkie. The event takes place at the UFC APEX.
Kamaka III will enter the octagon for the first time two weeks removed from his most recent bout at LFA 87. “Fighting Hawaiian” defeated previously unbeaten Colorado prospect Michael Stack via unanimous decision to extend his winning streak to five fights. The 25-year-old has also earned multiple victories for Bellator and King of the Cage throughout his nine-fight pro career.
Kelley will make his return to action for the first time since May 2019 when he picked up a first-round submission win for Louisiana regional promotion Rite of Passage. “Primetime” was scheduled to face returning UFC featherweight Julian Erosa in March at GKO 16 before the event was cancelled due to coronavirus concerns. The 33-year-old has finished four of his five pro wins.
UFC 252 will be headlined by the heavyweight championship trilogy fight between Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier.
