The unanimity of the scorecards reflected the one-sided dominance of Covington, who repeatedly put Woodley on his back foot over 20 minutes, landing strikes in volume and takedowns to demoralize the former undisputed champ. In the fourth round, judges widened Covington’s lead by awarding unanimous 10-8 scores, a nod to the bloody cuts he opened on Woodley’s brow. Covington got back into the win column and immediately called out champ Kamaru Usman and former training partner Jorge Masvidal. Woodley lost his third straight fight after losing the belt to Usman in March 2019. It was the first time Woodley had been finished in the octagon.
