The former UFC middleweight champion was stopped in the fourth round by Uriah Hall in the main event of UFC Vegas 12. “The Spider,” despite the loss, was quite competitive through the first two rounds and change before getting dropped in the third, and ultimately put away a round later. Dana White has seemingly closed the book on another octagon appearance for Silva, but the fighter himself has not.
Silva suffered a broken nose in the fight, which could keep on the shelf for several months.
On Tuesday, the Nevada State Athletic Commission issued medical suspensions from Saturday’s card at the UFC APEX with Silva facing a potential six-month layoff. The 45-year-old will need his nose cleared by a doctor, or he’ll be forced to sit until April 30, 2021. At minimum, Silva won’t be allowed to compete until Dec. 31 at the earliest.
Hall, who picked up his third straight win, is also facing a potential six-month term. “Prime Time” will need to provide X-rays on both of his hands and right foot. If positive, he’ll need clearance from a doctor or he’ll be forced to sit until April 30, 2021.
Three other fighters from the card are also facing possible layoffs until April 2021. Bryce Mitchell, who picked up the biggest win of his career over Andre Fili in the featherweight co-main event, must have his left hand X-rayed and be cleared by an orthopedic doctor to avoid six months on the sidelines. The earliest “Thug Nasty” could return is Dec. 16.
After falling short in his bid to become the first fighter to get to 4-0 in 2020, Bobby Green will clearance on left eye by an ophthalmologist in order to avoid suspension until April. The earliest “King” will be able to return is Dec. 31 if he is cleared from the eye injury, along with facial lacerations suffered in his decision loss to Thiago Moises—who also faces a layoff until April 2021 unless he provides an X-Ray to his left thumb and cleared by an orthopedic doctor.
