Esther Lin, MMA Fighting One-time interim middleweight title challenger Kelvin Gastelum will make his return to action against Ian Heinisch at the upcoming UFC event scheduled on Jan. 30.
Multiple sources confirmed the matchup to MMA Fighting on Thursday following an initial report from ESPN. Verbal agreements are in place for the fight, though the UFC has not made any official announcements regarding the bout.
Gastelum looks to get back on track after suffering through the toughest run of his career with three consecutive losses in a row. After losing a heartbreaking five-round war with Israel Adesanya, Gastelum then dropped a split decision against Darren Till before suffering a heel-hook submission loss to Jack Hermansson in his previous outing.
Prior to that run, Gastelum had gone 3-1 with one no contest at middleweight including wins over former champion Michael Bisping as well as Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza.
Meanwhile, Heinisch books his next fight after being forced out of a matchup against Brendan Allen at UFC Vegas 13 following a positive test for COVID-19. It was the second consecutive time Heinisch had been forced out of a fight with Allen this year.
Heinisch now moves to a different matchup as he looks to build on a win over Gerald Meerschaert in his most recent appearance in the octagon.
Gastelum vs. Heinisch is the latest addition to the upcoming card on Jan. 30 with a main event still to be determined.
