Max Holloway | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Max Holloway and Calvin Kattar are starting 2021 with a bang.
The UFC announced Tuesday that Holloway (21-6) and Kattar (22-4) will meet in the featherweight headliner of a Jan. 16 Fight Night card.
Holloway is coming off of back-to-back losses after dropping a unanimous decision to Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 245 that cost him the featherweight title, and then losing to Volkanovski by split decision in an immediate championship rematch at UFC 251 in July. Prior to those setbacks, Holloway had won 14 consecutive bouts at 145 pounds (including one catchweight bout where his opponent missed weight) and he captured and successfully defended the UFC featherweight title three times.
Kattar is 6-2 since joining the UFC in 2017. He’s won two straight and four of his last five fights, with knockout victories over Jeremy Stephens, one-time UFC title challenger Ricardo Lamas, and Chris Fishgold. In his most recent outing in July, he defeated Dan Ige by unanimous decision.
The location for the Jan. 16 event is yet to be announced.
