Nogueira’s public relations representative Fernando Flores told MMA Fighting that the former UFC and PRIDE heavyweight champion went to a local hospital with early signs of pneumonia, believing it was due to exhaustion after “kitesurfing five hours a day in Jericoacoara”.
“Minotauro” released a statement on social media on Thursday morning assuring that he’s feeling “super fine” and revealing that a COVID-19 test came back negative.
“Last week, from Friday through Monday, we did a 300 km road trip in this paradise called Ceara,” Nogueira wrote. “To my friends that are asking about my health conditions, I’m fine. I did all the exams, COVID test was negative. It was a small contusion oh my right lung. Not everyone knows about it, but I’ve had some lung and diaphragm surgeries when I was little.
“I’ll continue doing exams and tests until tomorrow in a hospital in Fortaleza. I’m super fine, my friends. Thank you all for the love and care.”
The 44-year-old veteran ended his MMA career in 2015 with a record of 34 wins, 10 defeats, one draw and one no contest. A member of the UFC Hall of Fame, Nogueira continues to work for the company as an ambassador in Brazil, and recently traveled to Abu Dhabi for the second series of Fight Island shows.
