Photo by Jeff Bottari/Zuffa LLC Jake Paul is now a growing concern, at least tangentially, in the world of MMA.
This past weekend, the YouTube sensation took to the boxing ring for his second professional fight, knocking out former NBA player Nate Robinson in the second round. It was arguably the most impressive performance of the weekend and immediately triggered a number of other professional athletes, including several MMA fighters, to offer their services for Paul’s next fight. But though many offered, Paul himself seems to have his eyes set on two men, who conveniently are training partners: Conor McGregor and Dillon Danis.
After his win on Saturday, Paul outlined his plan to eventually box Conor McGregor by first going through those close to him, namely Danis, and Danis was quick to respond.
you just fought a retired nba reject be careful what you wish for little guy @jakepaul

But though Danis seems up for fight, given how Jake Paul looked this past weekend, former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier thinks it may be best for Danis to let that dog lie.
“Jake Paul beats Dillon Danis in a boxing match, but Jake Paul doesn’t beat Conor,” Cormier said on Ariel & DC. “Conor can box. Conor is the real deal. But I think he beats Dillon. Dillon does not need to fight Jake Paul because he’ll get beat up.”
Things certainly seem to be trending towards that fight happening though. Paul has an enormous platform and generates huge interest and is likely the biggest name opponent Danis could hope to face. And if it does happen, Cormier at least allows that it will be a step up in competition for Paul from facing other celebrities, and a better fit for Paul than fighting a legitimately good boxer.
“You can’t learn to box in three months,” DC said. “It takes too much time and you could tell that kid Jake Paul has been training longer than a few months. Now, him calling out Conor, his brother calling out Floyd Mayweather, . . . Floyd Mayweather would destroy his brother. But Jake Paul-Dillon Danis, I’m in.”
Danis, a former BJJ champion, is best known as McGregor’s training partner and right-hand man. Thus far, Danis has yet to show much of striking game in his two bouts inside the Bellator cage but absent that he has seemingly doubled down on emulating McGregor’s persona, throwing shade at nearly everyone, including Cormier, upon hearing DC’s opinion about his boxing future.

Cormier, of course, responded, doubling down on his assertion by threatening Danis with none other than Jake Paul.
Danis sit your ass down before I call @jakepaul for you!!! https://t.co/vrPDyPOOyR

Danis has not competed since June of last year, a first-round armbar of the unheralded Max Humphrey at Bellator 222.

[h=1]FIGHT ANNOUNCEMENTS[/h]N/A.

[h=1]FINAL THOUGHTS[/h]Dillon Danis is one of the most fascinating people in MMA. Not because he himself is interesting - he isn’t - but because he goes to show the curious nature of fame. Like, he’s not even a good troll - you could give Danis a tire iron and Cormier would obviously still murder him - but because he knows a famous guy and occasionally gets a mic in front of him, he may well make $1M boxing a YouTuber. Must be nice.
Thanks for reading and see y’all tomorrow.
