UFC Vegas 16 video: Jordan Leavitt knocks out Matt Wiman with brutal slam in just 22 seconds

Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC Jordan Leavitt picked up his first UFC win on Saturday night with one of the most brutal knockouts in recent history.
The former Contender Series winner had just picked up Matt Wiman for a takedown but his coaches instructed him to bring the fight over to their corner. Leavitt carried his opponent across the octagon and then put his forearm in the neck before bringing Wiman crashing down to the canvas.
Wiman’s head slammed violently on the ground and he was knocked unconscious immediately as Leavitt refrained from throwing any punches as the referee rushed into stop the contest. The end came at just 22 seconds into the opening round.
“That looks nasty,” Leavitt said as he watched the replay. “That’s hard. I’ve never been knocked out but I can’t imagine it feels nice. It’s pretty brutal. This is the fight game, it happens.”
The finish counts as the 12th slam knockout in UFC history.
Afterwards, Wiman remained motionless on the canvas for several moments before he finally sat back up again and eventually left the octagon on his feet. Leavitt actually spoke to Wiman’s wife as he showed concerns for his condition after such a devastating finish.
As for the performance, the undefeated lightweight now moves to 8-0 in his career while building on the reputation he earned after an impressive submission victory to earn his UFC contract back in August.
The 25-year-old, who trains out of Syndicate MMA in Las Vegas, appears to be a prospect worth watching as he moves forward in his UFC career.
