UFC Vegas 16 video: Gabriel Benitez crushes Justin Jaynes with devastating knee to the body

Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC Gabriel Benitez put quite an exclamation point on his performance at UFC Vegas 16 with a devastating knee strike to the body that put Justin Jaynes away in the opening round.
Coming off a pair of losses in his two most recent appearances. Benitez came his fight with something to prove as well as honoring his boxing coach Francisco Carvajal, who passed away earlier this year. The Ultimate Fighter: Latin America veteran certainly delivered as he finished Jaynes with a body shot that brought the fight to an end at just 4:06 into the opening round.
“I feel great today,” Benitez said during an emotional post-fight interview. “I know it was my night. I feel sad, it’s my first fight [since] I had my boxing coach pass away. I miss him. If he was here with me, maybe this guy didn’t touch me.
“I’m happy for this win. Let’s see if I win the bonus.”
The fighters were ready and willing to trade heavy shots as soon as the action got started with Benitez launching some powerful kicks and Jaynes countering with a ton of pressure and fast boxing combinations.
While Jaynes was moving forward and throwing multiple punches in succession, Benitez was effective with a variety of kicks to the legs and body as well as a timely uppercut that found a home on his opponent’s chin.
As time passed it was clear that Benitez was the more diverse striker and that’s exactly what led to the finish when he threw the knee that blasted Jaynes in the midsection. The moment the knee landed, Jaynes crumbled to the ground with Benitez following up with punches until the referee stopped the fight.
Plagued by injuries and time off throughout his run in the UFC, Benitez looked his best with this latest win as he moves to 6-4 overall inside the octagon.
