UFC Vegas 16 video: Jamahal Hill stops Ovince Saint Preux with barrage of punches in co-main event

Stepping into the co-main event, Hill put on a measured yet punishing performance to stop Ovince Saint Preux with strikes in the second round. Constantly pressuring with a boxing-based attack, Hill was methodical and effective as he put together a series of shots in succession and Saint Preux was unable to weather the storm.
The fight was stopped at 3:37 in the second round as Hill remained undefeated with his second win in the UFC.
“OSP is a legend,” Hill said about his opponent after the fight was over. “He’s been around the sport a long time. He pushed me to a limit that I haven’t been pushed to before.”
Patience was the key for Hill as he was picking and choosing his shots while refusing to get over extended into big exchanges with Saint Preux, who obviously packs a lot of power in his strikes. Hill did a good job targeting the body and then going back up top to the head but Saint Preux was quick to counter with some thudding leg kicks.
While still being wary of Saint Preux’s strikes, Hill started to gain confidence once the fight moved into the second round as he was really starting to find his range on the feet.
Again and again, Hill was punishing Saint Preux to the body and then opening up with a flurry to the head. Eventually, Hill’s shots were slipping through Saint Preux’s defense and the former interim title contender was getting tagged with a number of punches in succession.
Once he realized Saint Preux was rattled, Hill went for the kill as he pressed forward with a barrage of rapid-fire punches. Referee Jason Herzog kept a watchful eye and when it was clear that Saint Preux was essentially out on his feet and no longer defending himself, the fight was stopped.
Following the TKO stoppage, former light heavyweight champion Jon Jones dropped a couple of messages on Twitter showing how impressed he was by Hill’s performance and the upstart 205-pound challenger was honored by the remarks.
“I wish him well,” Hill said about Jones as he prepares to make his move to heavyweight in the near future. “When it comes time for me to step up to those greats like that, I’m going to be ready.”
