Taila Santos vs. Gillian Robertson and Jimmy Flick vs. Cody Durden have been added to the Dec. 19 fight card at UFC APEX in Las Vegas, the promotion announced on the Saturday broadcast for UFC Vegas 16.
Santos was scheduled to face Montana De La Rosa at UFC Vegas 16, but De La Rosa was removed from the event just hours beforehand when one of her cornermen tested positive for COVID-19, as MMA Fighting earlier reported. Santos was then matched with Robertson, whose fight with Andrea Lee at UFC 256 was cancelled due to an injury to Lee.
A source close to the situation revealed to MMA Fighting that Lee suffered a broken nose which forced her removal from the flyweight bout.
Flick and Durden were also set to face off at UFC Vegas 16, but a medical issue not related to COVID-19 ruled Durden out of the event.
In total, Saturday’s fight card lost three bouts on the day of the event, prompting a later start time for a three-bout preliminary card that will set up a five-bout main card. The event’s scheduled headliner, Jack Hermansson vs. Marvin Vettori, was booked after an injury knocked out Hermansson’s original opponent, Darren Till, and a positive COVID-19 test scratched Kevin Holland, Till’s replacement.
