Amanda Ribas will face fellow Brazilian strawweight prospect Marina Rodriguez in January. | Guilherme Cruz, MMA Fighting Amanda Ribas already has a new opponent for UFC 257.
Ribas and fellow Brazilian strawweight Marina Rodriguez have agreed to meet in a 115-pound contest after Michelle Waterson withdrew from the Jan. 23 pay-per-view event, multiple people with knowledge of the situation told MMA Fighting.
Both sides have verbally agreed but contracts are yet to be issued and signed, per sources. Ag. Fight first reported the news.
Ribas (10-1) fought twice in 2020 with wins over Randa Markos and Paige VanZant and was hoping to face Carla Esparza in December, but the fight never materialised. Ribas agreed to fight Waterson in January, but the former Invicta FC champion recently pulled out due to undisclosed reasons.
Rodriguez (12-1-2) will attempt to get back to the winning column after dropping a decision to ex-UFC titleholder Carla Esparza in July. In her previous four UFC appearances, the Contender Series talent had decision wins over Tecia Torres and Jessica Aguilar sandwiched between majority draws with Randa Markos and Cynthia Calvillo.
The UFC has yet to officially announce the location for UFC 257. The card will be headlined by a lightweight rematch between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier.
