After twice defeating flyweight stalwart Joseph Benavidez to become champion, Figueiredo’s first test as champion would be streaking contender Perez. A replacement for Cody Garbrandt, Perez was a game challenger, but he fell prey to the dangerous submission game of “Deus da Guerra.” Less than two minutes into the fight, Figueiredo locked in a tight guillotine to add a successful championship defense to his growing list of accomplishments.
This Saturday, just three weeks after defeating Perez, Figueiredo makes the fastest turnaround ever for a UFC champion when he steps back into the cage to take on Brandon Moreno in the UFC 256 main event.
