Moreno had been a ball of fire since returning to the UFC, going 2-0-1 and reminding fans why he’s long been considered a future UFC championship contender. But standing in his way was Royval, who’d burst onto the scene himself with submission wins of Kai Kara-France and Tim Elliott. Something had to give when these two met in the octagon and on this day it was Royval who succumbed to a furious ground-and-pound attack from Moreno.
A third straight win put Moreno at the top of the contenders’ rankings, so just three weeks after beating Perez he is now set to challenge Deiveson Figueiredo for the UFC flyweight title this Saturday in the main event of UFC 256.
