Karl Roberson | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Karl Roberson won’t be fighting this Saturday.
The UFC announced Friday that Roberson’s middleweight bout with Dalcha Lungiambula at UFC Vegas 17 has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test. Roberson confirmed this news via an Instagram story and the language in the release indicates that it was Roberson who withdrew from the fight.
Roberson’s message read: “Fight’s off due to COVID issues.”
This was to be Roberson’s second fight of 2020 and Lungiambula’s first. Roberson lost by first-round submission to Marvin Vettori in June, while Lungiambula was most recently seen in November 2019 losing a light heavyweight bout to Magomed Ankalaev by third-round knockout.
Roberson and Lungiambula were actually scheduled to fight at UFC 256, but a positive COVID-19 test forced Roberson to withdraw from that bout as well and the matchup was rescheduled for UFC Vegas 17. It is not yet known if the UFC will attempt to re-book Roberson vs. Lungiambula for another date.
With the cancellation, UFC Vegas 17 proceeds with a 12-fight lineup. See the updated card below:
