Cory Sandhagen | Esther Lin, MMA Fighting Cory Sandhagen and Frankie Edgar are getting another chance to square off inside the octagon.
MMA Fighting confirmed with people with knowledge of the matchup that Sandhagen (13-2) and Edgar (24-8-1) will meet in a bantamweight bout at a UFC event on Feb. 6 that is expected to take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. An official location is yet to be announced.
The fight was first reported by ESPN.
Sandhagen vs. Edgar was previously scheduled for a Fight Night event in Raleigh, N.C., this past January. However, Edgar was moved from that matchup to a headlining bout against “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung in Busan, South Korea, in December after Jung’s original opponent Brian Ortega withdrew due to injury.
Edgar went on to lose by first-round TKO to Jung, while Sandhagen wouldn’t fight until five months later. At UFC 250 in June, Sandhagen saw a seven-fight win streak snapped when he was submitted by Aljamain Sterling inside of a round.
Both bantamweights have since rebounded with victories. Edgar made a successful debut at 135 pounds with a split decision win over Pedro Munhoz in August, while Sandhagen scored a spectacular wheel kick TKO of Marlon Moraes in October.
Edgar, 39, is a former UFC lightweight champion and has twice competed for the UFC featherweight title.
A heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov is currently expected to headline the Feb. 6 show.
